“Good. Now, while I do your knees, you can hang onto a friend,” he said as he reached for the teddy bear Storm held out for him.

The bear was light brown with the softest fur she’d ever felt on a stuffie. As soon as it was tucked in her arms, she hugged it to her chest and sighed. Why did having a stuffed toy make everything seem not so scary?

“What kind of ice cream did you have?”he asked while he concentrated on his task.

“It was butter pecan and chocolate fudge,” she answered wistfully.“It was so good.I can’t believe I dropped it.The sign said I could walk.”

His eyebrows furrowed.“Yeah, well, those guys are assholes. They’ve been riding through Shadowridge, revving their engines and running traffic signals for the last few months. It’s starting to piss us off.”

“Us?”she asked.

He glanced up at her briefly.“Yeah.My club.I’m a member of the Shadowridge Guardians MC.Have you heard of it?”

“No.But I’m kind of new here.”

“Yeah.I thought so.I’ve never seen you before.”

He applied the last bandage, then rose to his full height, which was pretty dang tall compared to her.At least a foot taller.Maybe more.

“Well, uh, thanks,” she whispered as she stood.

Levi raised his eyebrows.“You’re welcome. We’re not done yet.”

Huh?

“Let’s get ice cream,” he added.

She shrugged.“Oh, it’s okay.I’m fine.”

He gently nudged her back toward the ice cream shop.“Nah, Little one. After all that, you deserve a new ice cream cone.Besides, I think Storm would be sad if we didn’t get him one.”

The other man grunted and rubbed his stomach dramatically, though he was still sporting a scowl.“I’m definitely craving some cookies and cream.”

She giggled. As scary as he looked, she hadn’t expected him to be silly. It certainly didn’t seem like ice cream was part of his daily diet. Both men were muscular and definitely worked out regularly.

When they got back to the shop, Levi opened the door and ushered her inside. It was empty this time, which she was relieved about.

The older man, who had helped her before, looked up from the counter and frowned.“Welcome back, young lady.”

She smiled at him but didn’t say anything as they approached the cash register.

“Hey, Tom.Harper had a little fall and lost her ice cream cone. Can we get her another one, please?”Levi asked.

Without missing a beat, Tom scooped up a new cone and handed it to her.He shook his head when Levi tried to hand him some cash.

“No charge. What can I get for you and Storm?”

“Cookies and cream in a cup,” Storm said.

“I’ll take the same as Harper, but in a cup too. That looks pretty damn good,” Levi replied.

Tom chuckled, then got the men their ice cream. They were totally missing out by not getting cones.Their loss.

“Thank you,” she said softly.

Levi grinned and nodded.“You’re welcome.Let’s sit down.”

When he pulled out a chair for her, she couldn’t leave. She didn’t want to, either. There was something about these two men that made her feel safe.
