“I don’t have a fever.Daddy already took my temperature.I don’t need an exam,” she blurted out.

If he wasn’t so pissed, he’d find it adorable how nervous she was about having an exam.

“It’s not that.I’m glad you’re not sick, though.I need to ask you something,” he said as he sat down next to her and Steele.

Ivy nodded, her eyes wide.“Okay.What’s wrong? Is Harper okay?”

Doc sighed and set her phone and the monitor on the table.“Did Harper mention anything about her ex?Anything about him still contacting her?”

“What? No.I mean, she told us a little about him, but she didn’t say anything about him reaching out to her. Why?”

“I think he called her. From an unknown number. He hung up on me when I asked who it was, but he was definitely pissed that I answered her phone.”

Steele furrowed his eyebrows.“Where’s Harper?”

“She’s asleep.I don’t want to wake her. She’s been running a fever since the girls came back from their outing today,” Doc answered.

“You could call Colt.He might have a way to trace the call,” Steele offered.

Colt was a friend of theirs in Seattle. He owned an IT company and could hack anything.

“I’ll call him,” Doc said.“Until then, we need to be on alert.I don’t know if this asshole has a way to track her or not.Keep the girls inside unless one of us is out with them.”

Steele nodded.“I’ll spread the word. What do you need from us?”

Doc shrugged.“I don’t know yet. It’s possible it wasn’t him.The way he spoke to me, though, tells me it is.”

Bear sat up straighter and nodded toward the hallway.Doc turned and watched Harper sleepily shuffle toward him.He stood and opened his arms for her.

“Hey, kitten,” he said as he hugged her to his chest.

“Is it okay that I came out here?”she whispered.

He furrowed his eyebrows and cupped her chin so he could look her square in the eye.“Absolutely, baby girl. You can go anywhere in the clubhouse you want except for private suites.Did you start feeling worse?”

She shook her head, her cheeks turning pink.“I had to go potty.I actually feel a lot better.”

He held his hand over her forehead and breathed a sigh of relief.“Your fever is gone.It might have been a reaction from the smoke inhalation you had.Your body might be trying to fight off something.”

“I hope so.I don’t like being sick.It’s the worst.”

“It is the worst.Although, I do like taking care of my Little girl when she’s not feeling well.”

The way her cheeks kept turning pink was so adorable. She couldn’t mask her emotions if she tried. It was precious.Nothing about his girl was fake or forced. She was truly a Little girl at heart. His Little girl. His to protect.Shit.He had to ask her about the man who called her.

“I need to talk to you,” he said as he picked her up and settled her on his hip.

He sat on one of the couches and wrapped his arms around her, loving the way she snuggled right into his chest.

“Baby, while you were sleeping, your phone kept ringing, so I answered it.It was an unknown number, and it was a man on the line.He seemed pretty angry.Do you know who it might be?”

Her gaze immediately dropped to her lap as her bottom lip trembled. When she looked up at him, and he saw tears in her eyes, it felt as though his chest was cracking right down the center.

“I’m pretty sure it’s my ex.He’s messaged me a couple of times from unknown numbers, and each time I block them.I don’t know why he won’t leave me alone.”

Fuck.He was going to find this guy and kill him.

Tears streamed down her face. The urge to kill that asshole turned into an urge to torture him first.
