Harper pulled her head away from his chest and looked up at him with the saddest eyes.“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.”
Doc shook his head.“It’s okay, baby girl.You’re still learning to trust me.Going forward, though, I need you to tell me things like this.It’s a rule in this club.If anything ever happens, you tell me immediately, and if I’m not around, you find one of the other guys and tell them.We’ll do everything we can to protect you, but we can’t if we don’t know what’s going on.Understand?”
“Yes.I understand.I’m sorry,” she said, sniffling.
“Does he know where you live, baby?”
She shook her head.“No.I don’t think so.”
He was glad she hadn’t given him her new address, but he was also smart enough to know that finding that kind of information wasn’t impossible.
“What if he comes after me?”she asked in a trembling voice.
Doc shook his head.“You’re part of the Guardians now.We’ll protect you.”
He meant it.He and his MC brothers would do whatever was needed to protect her and any other Little who belonged to them.
King entered the room, his eyes dark with rage.As soon as he laid eyes on Harper, his expression softened slightly.“Doc, can I see you for a minute?”
Steele rose from the table and moved over to the couch.“I’ll sit with Harper and Ivy.”
Harper nibbled on her bottom lip, her eyes wide as she looked Steele up and down.The man was intimidating.Especially to people who didn’t know him well.Doc knew she was safe with him, though.Steele was putty for all the Littles in the house.
“You’ll be fine.Ivy will stay and hang out with you too.I’ll be right back.”
She glanced at Steele one more time before she nodded.“Okay, Daddy,” she replied so quietly only he could hear.

Before she could react, he lifted her off his lap and set her on the couch next to Ivy.King led him down the hall until they were far enough away they wouldn’t be heard.
“What’s up, man?”Doc asked.
“I was just down at the firehouse.Chief said the fire at Harper’s complex was arson.A witness told the police they saw a man, who looked to be in his thirties, running away from the building right before it went up in flames.”
Doc froze, every bit of air rushing from his lungs.It was him.Her ex.
“It gets worse,” King told him.“The fire was actually set on her side of the apartment.Someone used an accelerant to start the fire in her garbage can out the back.Instead of catching her side on fire, it caught the neighbor’s ivy on fire and burned that side.Her back window was open, though, which is why it got so smoky in there.”
Doc started breathing heavily, unable to believe what he was hearing.
King sighed and ran a hand over his hair.“It also appears someone was in Harper’s apartment before the fire.The smoke detectors in her place had been removed, and the lock on her back door was mangled like someone used a knife to break it.”
“What?”Doc shouted.
King sighed.“I’m sorry, man.I wish I had better news.”
