“We are. It took some time, you know? I was so angry in the beginning and blamed Laz for buying me from father. But then there was a storm, and he saved me.” Alana’s cheeks turn a bright shade of pink. “And let’s just say that we finally admitted our feelings to each other.”

Andrina turns to Ayla. “Told you. Now pay up.”

Ayla sticks out her tongue, and we all laugh.

Attina says, “Eduardo and I have also reached an agreement.”

Aquata shakes her head. “Davi and I still hate each other, but the sex is good, so I’m not complaining. Besides, he lets me do as I please.”

Adella says, “Well, I think you all can guess how things are on my end. Hugh is still a monster, but I’ve decided to leave him.”

“You have?” I asked, surprised. “What made you decide that?”

“Money, for one.” She glances over her shoulder as if making sure that she’s alone. “Kieran Van der Zee is helping me get away.”

Dread and maybe even a bit of jealousy coil through me.

“Did you sign a contract with him?”

“Contract? No. He called to see how I was doing. After talking a few times, he offered to get me and the kids out of the house and away from Hugh. I told him I needed to think about it, but I decided just today that I want out.” She wipes at her eyes. “I’m going back to Chicago once I have the baby. Mr. Van der Zee already has a house ready for me and the children. Not only that, but his attorneys are going to represent me when I file for divorce, though I really don’t think Hugh is going to contest anything.”

I’m speechless. Why is Kieran doing this?

Adella continues, “That man loves you, Ari. I know that may not be what you want to hear, but it’s the truth.”

Several of my sisters nod, as if they agree.

“Wait. Has he been in contact with each of you?”

Attina says, “He has. He’s worried about you.”

“Did he tell you what he did?”

She nods. “He did. All of it. From mother all the way to his plan for revenge.”

“And you still think I should give him a chance?”

She smiles. “Sister, only you can decide that.”

“But?”

I know my sister—she has an opinion.

“But I think everyone makes mistakes, and he’s doing quite well groveling.”

“Groveling,” I scoff. “How so?”

“Well, we’re all together, aren’t we? That’s because of him.”

Andrina adds, “And you’ve been getting all of your favorite meals when we eat. Meals that aren’t local, I’d like to point out. Who do you think is behind that?”

I still, realizing she’s right. My favorite meals have been served since I’ve been here.

Arista gestures to the window. “Haven’t you noticed the guards patrolling the hotel grounds? If you look closely, you’ll see that they wear the symbol of Van der Zee.”

Ayla stands, going to a table with a floral arrangement. “This is a five-star hotel and yet they have a wildflower bouquet. I wonder why that is?”

Because they’re my favorite…
