“Thanks.” I stand. “I’d like you to leave now.”

I can tell he wants to say something, but he doesn’t. Instead, he turns and leaves. Closing my eyes, I exhale. I can do this.

Pulling out my phone, I sent Andrina a text. What I need right now is time with my sisters and my best friend.

Jetsam and Flotsam arrive at my hotel room the next day.

Jetsam bows at the waist. “Always a pleasure, Ms. Triton.”

“Please, come in. Thank you both for coming so quickly.”

Flotsam grins. “No need to thank us. We should be the ones thanking you for this trip to England on Mr. Van der Zee’s dime.”

“Kieran’s paying? Then I insist you stay for a few hours to get your money’s worth.”

Both men laugh and take a seat on the couch.

“I understand you’re the ones who draw up contracts for Unfortunate Souls, correct?”

Jetsam nod. “We are.”

“Good. I need a contract drawn up. I have some notes, but I’m not sure if it makes sense or if it’s even legal.”

I hand my notepad to them. Both men skim over the list, speaking in low tones to each other.

Jetsam finally says, “We can work with this. When would you like the final version?”

I grin. “How long would you like to stay in England?”

Flotsam says, “We’ll have it ready by Monday.”

“Excellent. Now, gentlemen, I insist that we go to lunch while you’re here.” I wink. “Kieran is picking up the tab.”

The three of us make our way to the hotel’s dining room, where Seb and my sisters join us. I know Kieran is near, though he gives me the space I crave. My plan is coming together, and when it does, I’ll be ready to talk to Kieran. Until then, I’m going to enjoy playing hard to get.

Kieran

I’m going out of my fucking mind. Jetsam and Flotsam left England two days ago, and yet Ari hasn’t called for me. She’s gone shopping with her sisters. She’s gone to the beach with Seb. Hell, she’s even gone to the spa at the hotel. But she hasn’t sent for me.

I run my hand through my hair. I don’t know what to fucking think anymore. I had hoped that she would forgive me, but that hope fades with each day that passes. I don’t deserve her forgiveness. I know that.

A knock on my door brings me out of my thoughts. Opening it, I find Seb, whose skin is sun kissed from being at the beach all day. He’s smiling, making me want to punch him.

“What?”

“If you’re going to be beastly to me, then I’ll turn my butt around and make you wait another day before delivering Ari’s message.”

I reach into my jacket, pulling out my pistol. “Take one step toward the door and it’ll be your last.”

He laughs, which is brave or foolish of him. I’m not sure which yet.

“Ari would like you to meet her in her room at seven for dinner. She’d like you to wear something nice.” He eyes me in disdain. “Maybe shave and take a shower. I definitely recommend deodorant and cologne, too.”

“Has she… does she seem happy?”
