“Is that supposed to make me feel fucking better?”

“I guess not.” He presses the button and says, “One-hundred million.”

“One-hundred million,” the announcer calls out.

Irons turns to me. “Sometimes you have to throw enough money to shut them up.”

The announcer calls out, “Going once. Twice. Sold to Mr. Irons.”

Anna is led off the stage. She’s shaking, and I want nothing more than to rush down there and hold her.

Hans puts his hand on my shoulder. “Anna is a strong woman, Odin.”

I dip my head in understanding. Now I’m the one who needs to keep my cool.

Irons stands. “We need to pay and then get out of here.”

“You’re sure your contact is going to shut this place down?”

He smiles, though it doesn’t reach his eyes. “Yes. The Devil’s Regents MC is very passionate about shutting down trafficking rings.”

I’d never heard of the Devil’s Regents Motorcycle club until today.

“When this is over, I’d like to meet them.”

Irons says, “You will have to conduct that meeting without my help.”

“Why? Scared of them?”

“Let’s just say I know which battles to choose. They received an anonymous tip that will get this place shut down and I get to live my life the way I want. A win-win.”

I shake my head. “Let’s go.”

“I’ll go. You and your brothers need to put your masks on and go to my SUV like obedient soldiers.”

Thank god Irons and his men travel with masks on, otherwise my brothers and I wouldn’t have been able to come inside. The warehouse is crawling with security that works for Madame Gothel, and I know we would have been recognized right away. Heimdall hands me my black mask and I slip it on.

Irons stops me. “It won’t be suspicious if one of you comes with me. Just stay quiet. Yes?”

I nod. He slips on his mask, which is meant to look like the devil. Fitting, because I’d sell my soul to get Anna back.

He leads the way to the first floor. Even though we were patted down when we arrived, we’re patted down again before being let into a room where Madame Gothel sits behind a desk. My jaw tics. I’d like nothing more than to end this woman’s life right here and now, but that’s not what I’m here for. My only concern is getting Anna out of here.

“Claudius,” she greets him with a fond smile. “You surprised me. Bidding on two tonight?”

Irons answers, “I’ve done my research. Do I want to know how you came to have two of Elsa’s granddaughters in your possession?”

Her laugh rings out like bells. “It’s a funny story. Sit and I’ll tell you.”

He takes the seat across from her desk. I stand near the door, my hands clasped in front of me as a good soldier would do. I’m not stupid—this woman notices everything.

She gestures toward me. “New shadow? What happened to Timon?”

“He proved to be disloyal.”

“And this one?”

“We shall see.”
