Zander’s on his phone and Wood is pounding furiously at the computer he has set up on the dining room table.

“Knox, my man. When are you going to come work for me?” Zander asks into the phone with his eyes pointed right at us. Whatever is said on the other end of the phone has Zander’s face splitting into a wide grin. “I’ll pay you whatever you want. Hey, let’s circle back to that later. I need you to run a plate for me. Yeah. Whiskey foxtrot charlie one three four. Maroon or almost purple Honda Accord or Civic. That’s all the street camera captured.” He listens intently and his face lights up with interest. He makes a writing motion with his hand and Wood tosses him a notebook and pen. Zander jots down whatever the man on the phone is saying. “Send me the address.” He ends the call and his phone instantly pings with a notification.

“Austin Snyder, is that name familiar to you at all?” Zander asks but I shake my head. It isn’t ringing any bells. I know all of Vie’s friends, or at least I thought I did.

“That’s who she was communicating with on Whisper Chat. Wood, let’s roll,” Zander packs his computer up and starts to tell us he’ll let us know what they find at this man’s house when I cut him off.

“I’m coming, too,” I say, heading towards the front door but Jaxson grabs my elbow and stops me.

“Ace, let them handle it,” he says and I narrow my eyes at him.

“I’m going Jax, so you can either drive or you can get your fucking hand off me and let me walk out that door.” He curses and storms over to this large wooden entryway table that has a lid that locks. Feeling around the top ledge of it, he pulls down a key and unlocks it, revealing an array of handguns. He stuffs one in his waistband and holds another out towards me.

“Do you know how to shoot this?” He asks with an arched eyebrow and I scoff.

“This is Alabama, Jax. Of course I know how to shoot it,” I take it from him, expertly loading the magazine into it before stuffing it in the waistband of my jeans. I look up and all three men are staring at me. “What?”

“Fuck, Ace. Now I’m hard,” he says, adjusting himself in his jeans and locking what I now know is the gun safe back up.

“Jesus, Callaway. T.M.I.,” Zander groans as he shoulders past me. “But seriously, Avery. That was sexy has hell,” he says, and Wood lets out a chuckle.

“Watch yourself, James,” Jax warns and Zander winks at me before walking out the front door.

“Where’s Blake?” I ask as we all leave and Jax locks up behind me.

“I ran him next door to my neighbor, Janine. I didn’t want to upset him with the guys in and out so I asked her if she could keep him for a little while,” he opens the passenger door for me and I climb in. Him and Zander have a few more words before we are in the truck and trailing behind Zander’s lifted pickup.

Crack! The front door to the modest one-story Ranch house we pulled up in front of just moments ago splinters open and a high-pitched scream comes from the living room. Zander, who just kicked the door open, sweeps the area with his gun and points it directly at the man sitting on the couch, the same man that the scream came from.

“Who the hell are you?!” The idiot says from the couch and Jaxson walks directly towards him and punches him in the face. His head rocks back, blood flying from his mouth. “Ouch, what the fuck man!?”

“Where’s Genevieve?” Zander says with his gun pointed directly at the man’s head who has to be this Austin guy. The guy hesitates briefly, and Zander cocks the gun. “You better answer fast.” The guy holds his hands up.

“I s-s-s-s-wear, I didn’t know she wasn’t eighteen.”

“Avery?” I turn around and Genevieve is behind me, it looks like Wood found her somewhere deeper in the house. I rush over to her, checking her over for any cuts or bruises. She shoves me away.

“God, I can’t believe you followed me,” she snaps and crosses her arms over her chest.

“Followed you?! Christ, Genevieve. You’resixteenyears old. You have absolutely no business talking to some stranger on the internet!”

“You’re just trying to ruin my life!” She cries out. “Newsflash Avery, you aren’t my mom.” Her comment slices me open, another reminder that I’m screwing everything up.

“Genevieve, you better watch it,” Jaxson warns but it doesn’t stop her.

“What? I’m not wrong. You’re not my mom, Avery. You’re just my older sister that threw her life away to raise kids that aren’t even hers, so now she wants to make our lives miserable, too.”

“Enough,” Jaxson growls out, turning his attention towards Zander, who still has his gun pointed at the creep on the couch, “you got this handled?”

“You know I do. Cops are on their way. If they need a statement from any of you, I’ll send them your way,” he says, and the guys eyes bug out of his head at Zander’s words.

“You called the cops?!” He screeches and Zander narrows his eyes at him.

“Of course I called the cops, you sick fuck. You didn’t think you could just send unsolicited dick pics to teenagers and get away with it did you?”

“Come on, Ace, let’s go home,” Jaxson says, nodding at Vie to go and then sliding his arm around my waist and leading me out of the house. Genevieve stomps in front of us the entire way to the pickup, slamming the door when she gets in. The car ride back to Jaxson’s is filled with stony silence. He drives past his place, pulling into the neighbor’s driveway and leaves us in the truck while he runs in to get Blake.
