Theblack-tiegala.

“Shit.” I looked down at my jeans and sweater, knowing my closet was filled with their matching brothers and sisters.

Millie was looking me up and down. “I can help you,” she said. “I used to be a buyer for a fashion label, and it came with a lot of perks—most of which I had to sell to buy my store, but I did manage to keep a few things.”

“I couldn’t?—”

“Oh, please,” Molly said. “You’ll be doing her a favor. She loves dressing people up. It’s like a grown-up version of playing dolls for her.”

“It is,” Millie said. “I can’t lie.”

I let out a sigh of relief. “That would be a really big help.”

“Great! We can head over to my house after lunch if you have time? I have the store covered for the rest of the afternoon.”

“That would be great,” I said as I tried to gather up the courage to ask my next question. “And while we’re there, do you think I could talk to your husband? I have some paintings I think he might like to add to his gallery.”

A surprised expression crept across her face. “Absolutely.”

I’m doing it, Daniel. I’m really doing it.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

I’d been staring at her text for the better part of an hour. I had just walked in the door when I got the alert on my phone. Since then, I had taken a shower and changed.

Now, I was just standing in my kitchen, staring at those seven words she’d sent, trying to make a decision.

Marin: My house at 6. Pack a bag.

My initial response was an obvious one.

Hell yes.

But then I remembered it had only been three days since we’d stood on the side of that road and I’d made that very stupid deal.

Macon: That doesn’t sound like taking it slow.

Marin: That’s presumptuous of you. I slept over at your house, and nothing happened.

I thought back to that moment when I’d run headfirst into her after she took a shower.

So naked. So wet.

Macon: Did I ever tell you how much I wanted to rip that towel off and just take you right there in the hallway?

Marin: You know my house has a shower. Two actually.

Macon: Not helping.

Marin: I just want to wake up next to you. Plus, I have good news.

Well, damn. How could I say no to that?

Macon: What news?

Marin: Come over and find out.

Macon: I’ll see you in fifteen.
