“No!” She scoffed. “Shit. This is gonna go straight to your head, isn’t it?”

I grinned. “Oh, it already has.”

“That’s it. I’m never telling you.” She walked toward the kitchen.

I chased after her, grabbing her around the waist. “How about I try to guess? And every time I get it wrong, I owe you a favor?”

“A favor?” Her brow lifted. “What kind of favor?”

A single finger trailed down her collarbone. “Anything.”

A wide grin spread across her face. “Deal.”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake, Macon,” Billy’s voice boomed through the restaurant.

I turned to see him storming through rows of tables, and I flinched.

“You’ve been here every day of the week. Every damn day.”

I casually nodded, sitting back in my chair with one foot over the other. “And I’m gonna keep showing up every damn day until you talk to me.”

“I am—” He huffed, looking incredibly annoyed. “I’m talking now.”

“No,” I corrected him as Marin peeked over her menu, trying not to grin. “You’re yelling. Pretty loudly, too.”

We looked around at the packed restaurant as people diligently tried to ignore us.

He grabbed the towel on his shoulder and wiped his brow. “I told you the first time you were here that I didn’t want to talk to you.”

“And I told you that was fine, but that I’d just keep coming until you did.”

He let out a frustrated growl and then proceeded to walk away. He hadn’t served me in a week. He’d let me sit at a table, but that was it.

No menu, no drinks.

Not a single French fry.

Nothing.

Sometimes, when Marin joined me, he’d serve her—just out of spite, but never me.

He’d made himself clear the first time I came to apologize.

He did not want to talk to me.

And I understood that.

He had every right to be mad at me. I’d fucked up. More than fucked up.

But that didn’t mean I was going anywhere.

I’d sit at this table for a month, a year, a fucking decade if that was what he needed. But I’d still sit here and show him that I was here for him, no matter what.

’Cause that was exactly what he’d done for me.

Of course, I was hoping it wouldn’t take nearly that long.
