He slid on his shades and then grabbed my hand as we made our way back to our bungalow.

“That was fun. I can’t believe we swam with sharks. It was exciting, but I couldn’t help but worry about getting eaten by those little guys.”

When I had first mentioned swimming with sharks, I had pictured Jaws. Thankfully, the sharks were small and only wanted the fish fed to them by the guides.

His deep laughter filled my ears, and his hand tightened on mine. “One taste of you and it would have been all over for us.”

He was being sarcastic since the sharks were obviously too small to do any real harm, but still, I enjoyed the fact he thought I was tasty.

“Excuse me, sir, are you saying I taste sweet?” I flirted.

Since when did I flirt?

Who was this woman I was becoming?

And why did I like her so much?

Lifting my hand to his lips, he kissed my fingers. “The sweetest.” He grinned.

At that, I pulled my hand from his and began to walk backward toward the beach. He chuckled and followed me. A wild streak ran through me, and I found myself turning around and moving faster.

“What are you doing, pretty Allison?” he singsonged.

I could hear him behind me quickly catching up with his long legs and wide stride.

I turned my head to look behind me, and a knowing smile spread across my face. He was on to me.

With a squeak, I abandoned my flip-flops and began to run from the dock and onto the white sand. Laughing, I raced out over the wet areas, cooling the soles of my feet. He was right behind me; his laughter echoing all around me.

Once he caught me, the heat from his body against my back set my blood on fire. I turned in his arms and saw the lust in his eyes immediately.

“I made you chase me,” I teased.

“I’ll always chase you,” he whispered, capturing my lips with his.

Our little cat and mouse game was fun. Again, I pulled away with a grin and made him chase me. The smaller waves bumped against my ankles when I reached the edge of the water.

“If you don’t want your cover-up to get wet, you better take it off!” he called out from close behind me.

I didn’t know what he was planning, but I didn’t want my top to get wet, so I quickly pulled it over my head and let it go.

I turned to see him closing in, his large feet eating up the sand and splashing through the tiny waves. Then he caught up with me and lifted me into his arms. He held me close to his body, his arms behind my knees and shoulders, and I wrapped my arms around his neck as he walked us out into the water.

Once we were waist deep, I moved away from him and wrapped my legs around his hips to hold on. He kissed me and then leaned his forehead against mine.

“You’re such a sweet surprise,” he said.

“What do you mean?”

“I didn’t know what to expect. Even you have to admit we married quickly, but here, you’re different.”

I stiffened in his arms, worried about what he would say next.

“I’m sorry,” I said in a rush.

Reaching up, he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. “Don’t apologize. I like you this way,” he said, kissing the tip of my nose.

I melted.
