“He acts like a caveman. Do you really like that sort of thing?” she asked as soon as he closed the door behind him.

“I’m not discussing Wyatt with you.”

“Why not? I’m your twin sister. By the looks of it, you two fucked already. How’s it feel not to be a walking prude anymore?”

“Jesus, Allison. Must you always act like such a bitch?”

“Meow.” She pretended to claw at me. “Somebody grew claws after she got some cock.”

“I’m not listening to this,” I said, turning to walk away from her.

She reached out and grabbed my arm, her nails digging into my skin.

“I see you couldn’t handle contacts,” she said, pointing at my glasses.

“And I see you couldn’t handle glasses.”

“God, no. No offense, but I couldn’t handle walking around looking like a complete nerd. While you were out of town, I decided to give myself a little makeover. Don’t worry, Mom and Dad are still clueless.”

“I imagine so. They have a lot on their plate right now. They don’t have time to worry about your wardrobe, I’m sure.”

She looked down at her painted nails. “Yeah, well, it is what it is.” She shrugged.

“Have you changed anything else about me?” I asked. “Do I even still have a job?”

I didn’t want to lose my place at the library. I loved it there.

She waved away my question. “Don’t worry. Your little job at the library is safe. I tried to go in for you, but I was bored out of my mind. Plus, I kept screwing things up. I told them I was sick and needed some time off. They agreed. Apparently, you never take a day off. Lame.”

“Good. That’s good.” I was relieved to hear she hadn’t screwed that up for me. I couldn’t start back right away, but soon.

“So how was my honeymoon?”

“It wasn’t your honeymoon. It was mine. You gave that right up, remember?”

She stared back at me, and I could see the gears working in her brain. Anytime Allison thought too hard, bad things happened. Quickly, I answered her question.

“It was fine. I had a nice time.”

“Yeah. We’ll see about that. Come on.”

And just like she always did, she took the lead. I followed her into the house. Once we stepped into the living room, Wyatt and Dad stood. I wanted to run to my dad and hug him, but hugs weren’t for Allison.

“You’re looking well, Dad,” I said with a smile.

He nodded, holding on to his walker. “I’m feeling better.”

My eyes trekked away from Dad before landing on Allison, who was busy eyeballing my husband. Her eyes dipped, checking out his chest before dropping even lower. Anger and jealousy sparked inside me.

What was she up to?

Once we settled at the dinner table, Mom began asking about Bora Bora as I expected she would.

“Swimming with sharks?” She laughed. “Leave it to you to do something like that, Allison.”

If only she knew.

“What about the bungalows? Were they nice?”
