“Mom and Dad want you two to come to dinner tonight,” she said without answering my question. “So you and my husband be there at six sharp. Try to at least dress with some style. If you’re going to be galivanting around town as me, you should look the part.”

I wanted to scream that he wasn’t her husband, he was mine, but I couldn’t say those things in front of Wyatt, and she hung up without another word. She was in rare form, so something must be bothering her. I cleared my phone screen and stuck it back in my pocket.

“What did your sister want, baby?”

Taking a deep breath, I sighed. “My parents invited us to dinner tonight. They’re excited we’re back and want to know how Bora Bora was, I guess. I do have those souvenirs for them. Remember?”

“Yeah. You got Joyce the set of pearls and Frank that old copy of Ernest Hemingway from that weird book shop, right?”

I nodded. “Yep.”

“And I’m sure Addy will love those scented soaps you got her.”

I wouldn’t really want them, but I had to pretend to be Allison, and she always got me things I never used.

“Yeah. Are you good with stopping by for dinner in a bit?”

He leaned in, pulling me to his side. “Of course, baby. Your family’s my family now, right?”

He grinned, and I smiled back at him. “Right.”

After going home to drop off our groceries, we freshened up and drove to my parents’ two-story traditional brick house. Leaning against the front porch beam and waiting for us was Allison. She was grinning, her arms folded over her chest with attitude.

She was wearing my clothes, a long baggy shirt and a pair of black leggings. She looked comfortable and so unlike herself. It was strange to see her dressed like that. I had always made myself invisible, hiding from the world around me because I was too afraid to be seen. I was too shy. Too scared of everything. It was hard to believe I had changed so much in such a short time, and it was all thanks to Wyatt.

I held my breath as we approached Allison, and I said a silent prayer that Wyatt wouldn’t notice the difference. Her fuck-you attitude and my shy quietness were opposites, but if she fooled our parents while I was gone, I was sure fooling Wyatt wouldn’t be a problem.

She glared at me, looking me up and down with a disapproving expression. I hadn’t listened to her. Instead of worrying about what was in style, I wore something comfortable for me — leggings, a cute top that fell to my thighs, and a pair of ballet flats. As far as the world was concerned, Allison was now a married woman and had toned it down a bit.

I had even started wearing my glasses again, which Wyatt had commented were adorable. Allison, pretending to me, had opted to start wearing contacts. She wasn’t wearing glasses. I hoped that didn’t throw everyone off when they saw us together.

Wyatt and I held hands as we walked up to the porch where Allison was standing. She took in our joined hands before rolling her eyes and shaking her head.

“Hey, lovebirds,” she snapped.

Why was she acting this way?

She was going to blow our cover if she didn’t tone down her bitchy attitude. I would never treat people the way she was treating us. She was acting as if I took something from her when, in reality, she had forced me to marry Wyatt in her place.

“Hey, Addy. How are you, honey?” Wyatt asked nicely.

Her eyes turned away from our joined hands to Wyatt’s handsome face. She grinned, falling a bit under his spell, and I wanted to slap her.

“I’m great now,” she flirted.

What the hell was she doing?

No.

Absolutely not.

“Do you mind if I steal my twin for a minute?” she asked. “Mom and Dad are inside in the living room if you want to go on in. Allison and I will be in, in just a second, okay?”

Wyatt looked down at me for my response, and when I nodded that it was okay for him to leave me, he leaned down and kissed me. The kiss was passionate, igniting every nerve within me. My heart rate picked up, and I pressed my body closer to him.

“Get a room,” Allison snapped.

With a snort, Wyatt pulled back and winked down at me. He nodded at Allison as he headed inside the front door.
