“Can you explain that to me?” I asked.

“I mean, just last night she came home, and I thought we connected again. She was the same girl as on our honeymoon. Then when I woke up, she was gone again. Just like that … without a word to me. I called her to find out what the hell was going on, and she just laughed it off. What the hell’s that about?”

I could only imagine what Allison thought when he called her, but honestly, I no longer cared.

“I …” I started to tell him my opinion, but before I could get out more words, bile rose up my stomach and began to choke me.

I rushed to the side of the porch and made it over the side rail just in time to puke in the bushes. Wyatt was at my side, sweeping my braid to the side so I didn’t get vomit in my hair.

“Fuck, I’m sorry, Addy. I didn’t mean to upset you.”

I held my hand up, my stomach heaving once more. “I’m not upset. It’s something else,” I choked.

He stayed at my side, the heat of his large body calming me. He pulled out a handkerchief, and I accepted it, wiping at my mouth. His large hand covered the small of my back with gentle ease as he helped me back to the swing. I sat, my legs shaking from getting sick.

“I’m sorry you had to see that,” I apologized.

“Please don’t apologize. Are you okay?”

I nodded, covering my mouth. “I’m fine.”

Keeping his eyes glued to my face, he stared intently as if he was getting answers from my expression. Concern laced his brows as he reached out and patted my knee.

With the quiet of the moment, the cool breeze on my skin, and his hand against my flesh, it was as if we were back in Bora Bora again, and the magic had returned. He held me in his magnetic stare, and I found it hard to look away, but I did.

It was so easy to get lost in his dark gaze. Especially when he was above me, taking me with dark, sensual passion. My heart fluttered at the memory of the night before, and as if he could hear my thoughts, a knowing grin formed on his lips.

Wyatt made me weak, but I knew what had happened the night before could never happen again. I had to stay strong. I couldn’t give in to the temptation of him because he was no longer mine to have. Even if I did carry a tiny part of him within my body.

Reaching down, I ran a palm over my stomach. His eyes followed the motion. My stomach felt queasy again, and I pressed my hand to my stomach and the other on the armrest.

“Are you sure you’re okay? I swear I didn’t mean to upset you by talking about your sister. It’s just …”

“No!” I took a deep breath and tried to hold it in. “It’s not that. It has nothing to do with Allison.”

Not really. I mean, she was the reason I married and went on a honeymoon with Wyatt to begin with, but she wasn’t the reason I was pregnant. I had done that all on my own. Well, Wyatt and I had.

“Addison.”

His voice. His deep baritone voice calmed me and melted me at the same time. Hearing him say my name was like foreplay. I felt sick, yet the space between my thighs slowly started to throb. I could still feel him deep inside me.

Closing my eyes, I savored the memory, wishing he was really married to me. I wished he would sweep me into his arms, take me to my room, and make love to me all over again.

“Yes?” My voice sounded deep and full of need.

He didn’t speak, so I opened my eyes. I gazed up at him, and his eyes fell to my lips, his expression almost black.

“Are you sure you’re okay? What’s going on with you, Addy? And don’t say it’s nothing. It’s obviously something. Let me help you. What can I do?”

I wanted to tell him he could leave Allison and marry me. I wanted to tell him he could take me back to our home where we could raise our baby and be a family, but I didn’t.

Instead, I closed my eyes and opened my mouth, and words I hadn’t meant to say came falling out.

“I’m pregnant, Wyatt.”

When he didn’t respond, my heart began to race even faster. I couldn’t stop the tears that pushed against the back of my eyelids, and they broke through my lashes, rolling down over my cheeks.

Finally, he responded. “Allison never told me you were seeing someone.”
