“I’m not. It just happened.”

“How?”

“The normal way babies are made.”

He cleared his throat, his hand settling on my knee. “No. What I mean is, you weren’t forced, were you?”

His meaning moved through my brain, and I shook my head. “No. I wanted it.”

And I did.

I wanted him always.

“Have you been to a doctor yet?”

“Not yet.”

He stood, leaning over and taking my hands to pull me up.

“Go inside, shower, and get dressed.”

“Why?”

“Because I’m taking you to a doctor right away.”

“But I’m fine. I’ll set an appointment soon.”

He shook his head. “Let me do this for you. I’m not sure what’s going on with your family, but I do know you guys are having financial issues. Your father didn’t have health insurance, so I’m assuming you don’t either.”

I didn’t respond. Instead, I nodded and looked away embarrassed.

His finger was warm against my chin when he turned me to face him, and his soft sable eyes devoured my face, leaving me feeling exposed.

“Don’t be embarrassed, Addy. These things happen. Just let me take care of this for you. Okay?”

I wanted to cry when he dropped his finger away from my skin, but looking into his dark eyes and feeling his magnetic pull, I knew I couldn’t tell him no. Instead, I nodded, and without speaking, I agreed to let him take care of me.

He followed me inside, sitting in the living room while I ran upstairs to shower and get ready. As soon as I stepped into my room, my cell began to ring. Before answering, I could see Allison had tried to call me several times.

Reluctantly, I answered. “Morning, Allison.”

Instead of telling me good morning, she went straight for the kill.

“Why are you being stupid, Addison?”

I pretended to be confused. “What do you mean?”

“You went to my house and fucked my husband.”

My stomach dropped with her words. He wasn’t hers; he was mine. He just didn’t know it.

“Don’t be crude, Allison.”

“Don’t be crude? I’m not the one fucking her sister’s husband. You better be glad he’s completely clueless.”

“He’s not clueless.”

“Yes, he is. He actually thought I was there last night.” Her laughter filled the phone, and I cringed.
