I shrug as if she can see me. “I dunno. He drove all the way over here.” Glancing at my bedroom door, I lower my tone so it’s a hushed whisper. “Tay, he called me baby girl.” Taylor shrieks in my ear again and I pull the phone away. “Taylor,” I growl, “Can youpleasestop doing that.”

“Sorry sorry.” Her voice is breathless and comes out in puffs. “Seriously, this is just…a lot.”

I roll my eyes. “Tell me about it. Like one psycho isn’t enough.” I laugh and the other end of the line goes eerily silent. Pulling my phone away, I make sure the call didn’t get disconnected. “You good?”

She mumbles something but I don’t quite catch what she says before she lets out a heavy sigh. “I’m coming over.” She declares.

“What? No! You don’t have to do that. Seriously, I’m okay.”

“No arguments babe. I’m heading your way right now. And I’m bringing wine and chocolate. Fuck your ex, we can kick him out to the hall if we need to. You need some Tay-Tay time and to get away from these crazy ass men.” I smile, despite having tried to stop her.

I love this girl so fucking much.

Taylor comes barging in thirty minutes later, arms full and expression stern. I barely have time to get the door open before she rushes inside. I follow her over to the kitchen and between the two of us, we get everything lined up on the counter.

Once our arms are free, I wrap her in a hug and whisper a thank you in her ear. Taylor pats me on the back and gives me a squeeze. Pulling away, I look over the supplies she’s brought and decide to tackle the large bag of chocolates first. Behind me, I hear a throat clear and look up to find Taylor glowering. Rolling my eyes, I turn around, mouth full of gooey decadence. “What Seth?” I grumble around my bite.

He stares at me for a moment before his eyes dart to Taylor and then back. “Um,” He clears his throat again, rubbing his chest. “Do you mind if I take a quick shower and maybe do a load of laundry.” He gestures down at his rumpled clothes and gives me a shy smile. “I feel pretty disgusting.”

Behind me, I hear Taylor grumble, “That’s cause youaredisgusting, cheating slimeball.” I snort and start coughing as I choke on the chocolate. Taylor pats my back with a wicked grin on her face.

I shoot her a warning look and nod Seth toward my bathroom. “There’s towels in the cupboard under the sink. I don’t have any clothes to fit you but you're free to run yours through the wash. Just make sure to secure your towel really well. I’ve seen enough of your dick for a lifetime.” This time Taylor snorts and then falls into giggles. Seth gives me a scathing look before turning and heading off to shower.

Regaining some of her composure, Taylor lightly smacks my shoulder. “Bitch, I love you.” I beam back at her and return to my snacks as she pulls down a couple wine glasses and starts pouring.

We spend the next hour chatting about how things have been since I returned to my apartment. I ask her to pass on my gratitude to Beau for installing my security system. She tries to wave me off, only promising to say something after I insist several times and explain that it’s helped me to be able to sleep. I blink back some tears and her face softens as she finally agrees to pass on my thanks.

Seth stumbles out of the bathroom at some point and makes himself at home, snatching another beer from the fridge and lounging on the couch. I keep sneaking peeks at him, trying to decipher what his angle is and why he’s not back home with Brie. I know I saw the announcement, I can remember the sharp pain I felt. It was nothing compared to what happened later, but still seared into my memory.

Seth catches me looking at one point and smirks as he lifts his bottle to his lips, pulling slowly while maintaining eye contact as he swallows. It’s most likely the wine but I can’t stop staring at his throat as his Adam's apple moves with each swallow. My eyes wander to the tight grip he has on the neck of the bottle and I stifle a gasp as his fingers tighten around the glass. Seth’s eyes rake down my body as he lowers his drink and licks his lips. I bite my bottom lip as I stare at his.

I’m vaguely aware of Taylor saying something but my mind has checked out. The ache between my legs grows again but as I continue watching him, my mind wanders to another man. Blue eyes and blonde hair fill my vision and my nipples pebble at the memory of his rough beard scraping against them before sucking into his mouth and biting. I stifle the moan that tries to escape by taking a large swig of wine. I should not be having thoughts about that. About either of them. Trying to distract myself, I turn back to my friend and listen to what she’s saying.

“-ou wouldn’t believe the size of it! I’m serious, it was as big as my head!” She laughs, so I do too. I have no idea what she’s talking about but I bask in her joy. It’s so rare for me these days. I swallow more wine and push back that depressing reminder. Taylor’s eyes are glassy and she’s clearly had too much to drink.

I smile at her and reach out, grabbing her hand with a squeeze. She stops, looking down at our hands. “I think you should stay the night. You’re drunk dear.” I smirk at her as she looks offended.

“I am not drunk.” She hops up from her seat, wobbling as she lands on her feet. “See, I’ll prove it. Hey, you!” She shouts at Seth who’s still lost staring at me with desire burning in his eyes. “Yo, Detective O’lanne. Hellooooooo.” She waves her arms and sways, grasping the counter to steady herself with a giggle.

Seth finally moves his attention from me and looks toward my inebriated friend. “Hmm?”

Throwing her hands on her hips, Taylor juts out her chin. “I need you to give me a sobariety. Wait, sobrietery. No, that’s not right, umm…” I burst out laughing as she taps her chin, thinking hard. “Sobriety!” She exclaims, finger pointing at the ceiling in triumph. “I need you to give me a sobriety test so I can show my friend here I’m not drunk.”

I’m laughing so hard my side hurts as Seth stands with a chuckle. “Okay, Miss…?”

“Hauve.” Taylor hiccups in response.

“Miss Hauve,” Seth repeats as he swaggers over to us, amusement fading from his expression and replaced by a serious scowl. Stopping when he’s a few steps away, he crosses his arms and peers down his nose at her. “Have you had anything to drink?”

Indignant, Taylor lifts her head. “No, sir, officer.” I giggle behind my hand.

Seth raises an eyebrow, clearly not impressed. “Mmhmm. Let’s see about that. Please put your arms to your sides and raise one foot up.” Taylor slaps her arms down and lifts a leg. Swaying unsteadily, she gloats at him as she regains her balance. “Perfect, now keep your leg up and your eyes on your elevated foot as you count up from one thousand until I tell you to stop.”

Taylor starts counting and wobbles, giggling before righting herself and staring at her foot in angry determination. She starts again and begins to fall, flailing to catch herself. Seth strides forward and catches her, gently helping her back to her seat. Taylor crosses her arms and pouts. “This proves nothing.” She grumbles, glaring at the counter.

I snicker and look between the two of them, raising an eyebrow. “Well, officer? How did my friend do.”

Seth stares off contemplatively. Lifting his hand, he rubs his chin before humming softly and clucking his tongue. “I’m sorry to report, but it would appear Miss Hauve has had too much to drink to safely operate a motor vehicle.”
