Page 32 of Bleed for Me

Taylor’s indignant expression and Seth’s obnoxious formality have me doubling over in laughter. I lose my balance and land on the floor, rolling to my side giggling. They both stare at me in shock before dissolving into their own laughter. I gasp for breath and look up, a smile spread across my face.

I’m hit with a pang of melancholy. This could have been my life if Seth hadn’t fucked it all up. Swatting away the pity party, I choose to enjoy the evening, regardless of how strange it is to be in the same room with my ex-fiancé and my best friend after running away from a murderous kidnapper set on making me his.

At least there’s wine.

Chapter 15

Mick

I’ve never wanted to kill someone as much as I do right now. When the elevator doors opened and I saw that disheveled man be pulled into Paige’s apartment and her dart her head out before slamming the door, I saw red. There were no longer thoughts, there was only fury.

His girl. He called herhisgirl.

I clench my teeth and crack my knuckles.

I need to get inside of that apartment. I need to pull that man away from my woman. His screams of agony are going to be the only acceptable payment for this treachery. If I had known…

I shake my head, there’s no use in thinking like that, there’s only what I do now.

The only reason I haven’t broken down the door yet is I heard Paige tell him off shortly after he arrived. I wished she had kicked the asshole out but at least my girl has remained faithful to me. I watched her friend sneak in with arms full of food and wine.

That was hours ago, and she still hasn’t left either.

Releasing a breath, I rub my forehead. At least with her friend there, I know for sure there’s nothing else going on between that man and Paige. Leaning my head back against the headrest, I close my eyes.

I’m so tired. I haven’t had a decent sleep since she left.

Scrubbing my face with my hands, I look up and see the light for the apartment is still on. I let out a heavy sigh and lean back in my seat.

Might as well try and get a little rest while I wait.

I wake with a start and look around.

The sun is shining and most of the parking lot has emptied of vehicles. A quick inspection shows Paige’s friend and mystery guest have both left. I notice Paige’s car is also gone.

Scooting my seat up, I start the engine and back out, heading toward town. If she’s not at home, she’s most likely at work. That’s fine, I can handle a challenge.

One thing’s for certain, I’m tired of waiting.

It’s time to catch my little bird.

Chapter 16

Paige

“One large Caramel macchiato for Bentley.” I call out, setting the espresso down.

A young man walks up and smiles, grabbing the drink. Looking away quickly, I walk back to the coffee bar and get started on the next order. Brandi has already mentioned my attitude towards customers, especially male customers. I can’t shake the feeling of being watched, though, and the knowledge that two people are dead because I smiled at them makes me extra cautious in my interactions.

I know it’s not my fault what happened, but I have to do everything I can to avoid being the reason behind any more deaths. I shudder as I pick up the next cup. Prepping the shots, my mind wanders to Seth.

What would happen to him if Mick found out? Why do I feel guilty?

Regardless of what he claims, I do not belong to Mick, which means I can do whatever I want with whoever I want.

Not that I want to do that with Seth.

Sucking in a breath, I hold it for a few heartbeats before slowly releasing the air from my lungs. My life has gotten so complicated and all because stupid men think they can do whatever they want without any consequences. I grit my teeth as I steam the milk, imagining what I’d like to do to both men in question.
