“What’s that?”

“Open it.”

He does so with trepidation, snapping the lid open to look at the piece I’d picked just for him. He doesn’t say anything as he stares at it and does all he can not to let his face give anything away. The thick platinum band encrusted with hundreds of tiny black diamonds is simple, but I’d liked it a lot and I had hoped he would too, but now I get nervous that I’ve chosen wrong.

“I ordered that six weeks ago,” I tell him. “I’ve already thought about this. A lot. I don’t need more time, Hayden. Marry me, be mine forever and spend your life with me, Elle, and Brent.” It’s not a question; I command him as I would one of my men because I can’t comprehend him turning me down.

He stands suddenly, his chair scraping loudly behind him. I panic and prepare to chase him down, but he doesn’t run. He straddles my thighs and sits on my lap, holding my face in his hands and kissing me gently, rocking his hips to rub me into a state of frenzy. I stand and deposit him on the table, staying between his legs I grab the ring from the box and hover it over his finger.

“Yes?”

He nods, a huge grin splitting his face as I slide it down and look at it against his pale skin. I kiss him again and reach between us to untie the drawstring at my waist. He laughs against my lips. “Shouldn’t we talk to the other two?

“Don’t worry,” I say kissing down his jaw to his neck. “They’ll come join us when I make you scream.”

Brent and Elle didn’t join us until much later when we were sat back on the sofa. By the state of their hair and clothes, Brent’s proposal went as well as mine did, and he shakes my hand in silent congratulations. Elle sits next to Hayden, snuggling into his side and smiling as she admires the ring adorning his finger. For some reason, we all decide to squeeze together on the smallest section of the sofa to watch a late-night movie, arguing over which one to select. We’ve come a long way from watching on a tiny laptop from a single bed in a university dorm room, but the scene is so familiar, it makes me smile.

Elle catches my eye and smiles too, those silver eyes holding a promise of forever and the sparkle of starlight.
