“Oh, that’s okay. You don’t have to do that, I’m not sure how I’ll get here on a regular basis.”

“I’ll drive you,” Brent says.

“You don’t drive?” Ruby asks me.

“No,” I answer, then turn to Brent. “You can’t do that. I’ll be back home soon and—”

“I’ll drive you,” he repeats, more sternly.

I swallow at the look he’s giving me. It’s wrong to be turned on by someone when you went down on their best friend just a week ago. But hey, I guess that’s just me.

“That’s settled then. I’ll give you my number, you can text me your schedule.” Ruby gives me her number and without thinking, I hug her. She pats my back awkwardly.

“Thank you, so much.”

“Any friend of Brent’s is a friend of mine.” She smiles that bright white smile and turns back to her cousin. “You gonna be there later?”

“You’re coming?” He sounds surprised.

“Sure, I was planning on popping by.”

“Guess we’ll see you later then.” He smirks at her before patting her on the back, jolting her forward. She rolls her eyes, bids me goodbye, and walks off to the other ring.

Brent looks down at me with his usual resting scowl face and says, “Get changed, trouble. We’re off to stop two.”

LANCE

BRENT: There was an incident at the club last night, Elle is fine, but I’ve taken her out for the day. No need to worry.

ME: Is she okay?

BRENT: Yes.

ME: Where are you taking her?

BRENT: Exercise class. Thought it would help her relax.

ME: Okay.

ME: Hey, can you just give me a shout before you’re coming home?

ME:Just text me or something.

BRENT:Sure.

ME: Hey, where are you? You were gone when I came back from my run.

HAYDEN: I had to meet with some new suppliers at the restaurant.

ME: You know the general manager should be able to do that for you, right?

HAYDEN: I like to stay involved. You gave me a restaurant, let me have my fun! Anyway, why you texting me?

ME: I just wondered where you are, chill out. When will you be back?

HAYDEN: Do you miss me, handsome?
