Coach sighs. “Someone explain why I look like I’ve lost my shit overonefight.”

Fuck.

Kit jumps in with the whole story.

Now Greg looks pissed, but thankfully it doesn’t seem to be aimed at us. “So, how many times is this Zac and Harry going to get away with being assholes?”

“I understand your frustrations, Greg, but it’s all political. Money makes the world go around and their families have it. We have to play them at their own game.”

“Which is what?” Sawyer asks.

“Using their system against them,” I answer.

"I wondered when you’d add something." Coach looks at me.

I shrug. "I think my feelings on this whole matter are real clear."

"And what happens if he gets in your face again?" Coach asks.

I shrug. Because I can't promise them anything.

"Do you want a record? Because that won't help you with the Olympics."

I sigh. "No, but I'm not going to let him get away with things. He's a bully, and right now it might all look to be funny little schoolboy tricks, but he's gearing up to something bigger. And the more he gets away with, the more his confidence grows."

Mia sighs.

I lean forward, staring at her. "What?"

"I'm just fed up with all the drama."

Her mom lifts her hands, gesturing.

Violence doesn't solve things.

I think about what I want to say.I know, but it does end things. He will push until someone gets hurt, I'll make sure I will do the hurting first. He hurt Mia tonight, and I won’t stand for that!

Coach sighs and looks at Mia. "I don't know sign language, but I can assume by the smirk on her face that she likes Austin's response."

Mia smiles. "She believes in fighting and standing by your principles. Austin has told us what will happen if Zac continues with his harassment, it's not like it's going to be a surprise when it comes. But this could have been resolved ages ago.Off Topicshould have been canceled. Zac should have lost his place in the rowing crew. We’ve been let down by the system." Mia shrugs.

"But what are you willing to lose in the process?" Lucas' mom asks.

I smile. "We will just get better at not getting caught."

I’m willing to lose everything.

Except Mia.

Every parent, apart from Mia's, rolls their eyes while groaning. Okay, maybe they don't like my answer, but it's the only one I have.

Coach shakes his head. "And that's the apology we're getting?"

I nod. "I'm not going to apologize for standing by my crew, and Mia. I'm also not going to apologize for being the only person to put Zac in his place.”

Coach lifts his hands. "You're all adults and you know the repercussions. Just know that we won't bail you out next time."

Understood.
