The images come thick and fast as sickness swirls in my chest. I squash it down. I can’t think about it. I can’t acknowledge the growing fear. I’m not ready. My chest starts rising and falling rapidly as I try to breathe.

"It’s okay, lovely. I'm here if you want to talk." Nova brushes her hand over my arm, the jumper I'm wearing scratching skin that feels hot and tight with nerves.

"And how much of this conversation are you feeding back to everyone?" I ask, waiting for her to announce it all.

Are they waiting out there for the details?

Nova smirks. "Enough to placate them, but Austin doesn't step down easily, as you know, and if your dreams get worse, they will have more questions. You and Austin can fight about that later."

I sigh. I can't ask her to keep the secret from Austin, and I appreciate that she would have tried to.

Boston Brooks crew don't take no for an answer, and they’re all little detectives when it comes to secrets. It’s endearing, and frustrating.

How do we navigate this? Our track record with the cops isn’t good, but I know Austin’s record with violence. He can’t do anything when he’s hurt. He’d nearly died, and I’m not putting him through something else.

I’m not certain what has happened to me, I don’t have the full picture, but I know when I do, things are going to go from bad to worse.

CHAPTER THIRTY ¦ GOODBYE

?

Austin

Mia had chosen to head to her apartment with the girls as soon as we'd landed so I know they will be safe together. Plus, Avery is a force to be reckoned with. We drop our bags on the kitchen counter, and the second he does, Sawyer's already putting the coffee machine on. The dude is ninety percent coffee at this rate, already having had five on the plane.

"No way!"

"What?" I ask Lucas, already sensing the bad news from the internet.

"Off Topicis definitely back up and running, and the latest is all about our trip."

I sigh. How does Harry have so many spies? We don't do anything interesting so why does the world need to know about it? "Turn off your notifications. Let us just enjoy today as a rest day, and tomorrow we can deal with all the shit."

"Are you joining us at drills?"

I shake my head without having to think about it. While skiing had been fine, I'd experienced some twinges and knock backs that I haven't told them about. Psychically and mentally. "Not yet."

I'm not going to say, not ever, because I don't want to take it off the table. I really don't know what's on the cards for me, and for the first time, I feel okay with the unknown. I guess I haven't asked myself the right questions when it comes to what my life may look like.

"He's talking more about BS than us though!" Lucas laughs.

Kit rolls his eyes. “Something is happening with the Bay Scullers," he states as he checks his cell.

"What’s happening?" Sawyer asks as he chews on a protein bar.

"He doesn't say, he just hints at it. But Harry has never been wrong about a thing when it comes to this podcast. He has sources, and they are always reliable. Well, apart from our man being gay. We all know you're in love with Mia."

I stare.

My crew stare back.

Fuck.

So, it’s obvious then. I don’t say anything. I can’t tell them without telling her first.

"Maybe Dean Tucker has done something with all the information that's been passed onto him. Finally," Lucas adds in the growing silence.

I really don't care about Zac or the Bay Scullers. I'm more concerned about my girl, one who had been extra quiet on the flight back. Nova hadn't given us any new information, but Mia had fought sleep just so she hadn't dreamed. I need to get down to the bottom of it.
