“No one has seenMacy since Friday night.” Ian stood at the end of the sofa with his hands on his hips. “I’ve got Wardens out looking, but so far, nothing.”

“Keep looking.”

“We’ve looked everywhere we can think to look,” Ian argued. “It’s a pretty damn big city, and that’s if she’s even still in it.”

“Then look harder! I don’t care what it takes, just find her!” Micah slammed his fist down on the coffee table, hard enough to splinter the corner. “I want to see Lula.”

“Micah, man, she’s eighty-four and bakes pies.”

August stood in the shadows of the hallway, just out of sight, nodding in agreement with the beta. Micah had clearly lost his mind if he intended to interrogate the sweet old lady.

“She knows more than she’s telling. Just bring her here.”

“What about the redhead?” Ian asked.

Micah nodded once. “Bring Meredith as well. I want to know everything she knows about Macy. And I want those soaps pulled from the shelves. Anything with that crescent moon logo on it is gone. Do you understand?”

“No.” Having heard enough, August marched into the room with his hands fisted at his sides. “Leave Meredith out of this. Her customers are humans, Micah. No one else will get hurt.”

Micah glanced in his direction but otherwise ignored him. “I’ll expect you back within the hour,” he said to Ian. “Go.”

Ian jerked his head in a gesture August supposed was acquiescence. “Should I grab the guy?”

“What guy?” August and Micah asked in stereo.

“The guy she went on the date with,” Ian elaborated. Extracting a small notebook from his back pocket, he flipped to a page in the back and tapped it with his forefinger. “Finn. Callum Finn.”

“I don’t see how he’s important. August, do you know him?”

August couldn’t answer, though. The blood drained from his face leaving his head spinning while he struggled to remember how to breathe.

“Ant?” Throwing himself over the back of the couch, Micah grabbed August’s face in both hands and bent to look him directly in the eyes. “Ant, talk to me. Do you know this guy?”

Still unable to speak, August nodded, just a slight movement against Micah’s palms. “Callum is…” August cleared his throat and tried again. “Callum Finn is one of my patients—in Tulsa.”

Micah let loose a string of imaginative curses that could make a hooker blush. “Ian, find Meredith and get her over here.”

“Already on it.”

With the beta gone, Micah led August around the sofa and urged him to sit. “What can you tell me about this guy? Is he dangerous?”

“I don’t know.” Until sixty seconds ago, he would have said no. Callum could be a little intense at times, but August considered him harmless. “Why is he here? Did he follow me? What does he want?”

“Easy, sweetheart, one question at a time.”

Oh, now Alpha Tightass wants to be calm and rational.August inhaled deeply and released the breath through his nose. Then he repeated the most pressing question. “What does he want?”

“I don’t know, but I’m going to find out.” Shifting sideways, Micah took August’s hands and stroked the knuckles with his thumbs. “How long as he been coming to see you?”

“About a year.” His throat constricted, and his heart thundered painfully against his ribcage. “Do you think he was sent to watch me? Does he work for Annabeth? Why didn’t he just kill me? How many more have there been?” Sweet hell, half his client list could be in the woman’s pocket, sweeping through his office each week just to keep tabs on him.

“Ant. Ant, stop it.” Micah grabbed his shoulders and shook him firmly. “Breathe. In. Good. Now out. Again. Good.” Cradling August’s face, he sighed, pulled him closer, and slanted their mouths together in a tender kiss. “I don’t have any answers for you, sweetheart, but I agree that Annabeth is likely at the center of it all.”

Challenging the Queen without proof of malicious intent came with a death sentence. Annabeth Hayden wouldn’t leave a trail of evidence for them to conveniently stumble upon, either.

“So, what do we do now?”

Micah smiled, a feral, wolfish grin. “We call in reinforcements.”
