“That arrogant, selfish, two-bit hussy!” Miss Lula waved her hands in the air, causing her large breasts to sway as she stalked through Micah’s kitchen. “My Macy is a good girl, and she wouldn’t hurt anyone.”

“Do you know where Macy is?”

Even if they found her, it would be Macy’s word against the Queen’s. Considering her family would be next in line to the matriarchy, Micah doubted anyone would believe the poor girl. Still, she might be able to tell them something that could help.

Miss Lula nodded. “She’s in Tennessee for the weekend with her mate’s family. They won’t be home until Tuesday.”

“What do you know about the soaps and stuff she sells?” Micah pointed at the counter to the bottle he’d brought from Meredith’s bathroom. “Have you seen those before?”

“Of course.” Shrugging, Miss Lula traced the neck of the bottle with her index finger. “She sells them to a few different shops, along with lotions, natural remedies, and candles.”

Micah scowled. He felt like some had just told him two plus two equaled seven. “Does she ever sell them to the pack?”

“All the time.” She pushed her shoulders back and beamed with pride. “Doc Owen even recommends her remedies to his patients.”

“But, I thought that…I mean, she was selling…the shampoo in the…Meredith!” His head was going to split in two if someone didn’t start making some damn sense.

Meredith bounced into the room with August right behind her. “Yes?”

“Macy Danvers. What does she look like?”

“No clue.” She lifted her shoulder with a bit more attitude than Micah thought necessary. “What? We do business over the phone or email, she ships her stock to me, and then I direct deposit her commission. Welcome to the twenty-first century.”

“How long have you been doing business with her?”

“Not long, maybe six weeks or so.”

“Around the time we started making plans for me to visit,” August added, his lips twisting into a grimace. “Do you think Annabeth has been watching Meredith?”

As much as he hated to admit it, he wouldn’t put anything past his grandmother. “It looks that way.”

“Did you ever find out what was in those pill?” Lifting her thumb to her mouth, Meredith chewed on the cuticle while her gaze darted to each person in the room. “Was it more devil’s ivy?”

“No, it was just yarrow and elderberries.” Miss Lula snorted in disgust. “Elderberry roots, which are toxic even to humans, so you’ll need to pull any more of those bottles you have, honey.”

“Mer, have you sold any other bottles?” August asked as he rubbed her back in comfort.

“No, thankfully. I just got them in on Thursday. I haven’t even put them out on the shelves yet.”

Micah felt sick. So many people could have been hurt…could havedied, all because his grandmother refused to relinquish her family’s control over the pack. She had to be stopped, and he doubted a “pretty please” would get the job done.

Sliding past his friend, August crossed the room to stand at Micah’s side. “I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry for me, baby.”

If anything, his heart broke for August. Annabeth had pretended to love him, to be his family. She’d know where he was vulnerable, and she’d aimed her metaphorical dagger with devastating accuracy.

Micah hugged his mate to his chest and sighed. “She can’t get away with this.”

“No.” Closing his eyes, August leaned into him and breathed deeply. “What are we going to do, though? She’s the Queen, not to mention your grandmother.”

“She’s not going to accept a bottle of devil’s ivy dressed up like shampoo, either. No matter how prettily it’s gift wrapped.”

“Meredith!” August spun around and gaped at the redhead. “We’re not going to kill her!”

Without even a hint of guilt, Meredith just shrugged. “Okay, calm down. I’m just throwing out options.”

“No.” Miss Lula tapped her lips and then scurried to the telephone on the wall. “I think I have a better idea.”
