“Want some champagne when I grab a beer?”
“Yes.” Staying on the dance floor and being playful, I bump my ass against Astera’s. “Hey, someone is happy. Did you guys fuck the aggression out of each other?”
“Astera! No. We talked.”
“Uh huh.”
“That’s all we did.”
She tilts her head in Hayden’s direction for me to look over. And that bitch Lauren is trying to cozy up to him. Rage blurs my vision as I walk toward them. In an instant, I shove her away. “What, did I not make myself clear the first time I told you?”
“Jesus, relax,” she says with a look like I am insane.
Saying that only makes me madder. This time, I rush toward her and pop her right in the mouth, causing her lip to bleed. “Now, do I make myself clear?” Without looking, I know Hayden is pulling me away, and I hear him chuckling. “Come on now, you made your point, princess.”
Everyone’s attention turns to me, and I had no idea. Hayden pulls me into him, cups my face with both hands, and kisses me.
CHAPTER TWELVE
HAYDEN
“You good?” I pull my lips from hers.
“I am now.”
“Get a room,” a woman interrupts us.
I immediately reach to hug her. “Astera will be happy you made it. Oh. Ever this is Claire. Claire, this is my cousin Everleigh.”
Claire extends her hand to her. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“You too.”
Everleigh looks between Claire and me. “Are you two a thing?”
I look at Claire, not knowing how to respond.
“We are,” she answers.
“Awesome, then maybe you can come around during the holidays. Because Hayden here, he never brings anyone around us.”
“Is that right?”
“It’s true.” Everleigh leans in closer to Claire so I can’t hear what she is telling her.
Her comment makes her smile.
“Well, let me go say hi to the bride and groom. I’ll see y’all later.”
“Later.”
“Bye.” Claire has a smile spread across my face.
“What did she whisper to you?”
“Nothing for you to concern yourself about.”
Taking her hand again, I lead us to the dance floor so we can dance to a slow song, but otherwise I have no rhythm. “Someone is very territorial.”
