“You just need woman, man,” Griffin tells him.

“Women are nothing but trouble, no offense As.”

I laugh.“None taken.Have you met anyone, though?”

“Nah.Not really. It’s hard to when you are in the club.A lot of outsiders aren’t welcome without being vetted for.”

I nod.“True.I’m sure you’ll meet someone.”

We finish eating, and Griffin stands, offering his hand to me.“Let’s go for a walk.”

“Okay.”

With beers in one hand, we link our other hands together to walk. The weather is perfect, not too hot and not too cold. It’s just right with a light breeze.Down at the creek, there is a little bridge that connects to the other side. The creek isn’t that wide, so the bridge isn’t that long.

“I’d like to get married here,” I tell Griff.

“Here?”

I look up at him.“Yes, here. This is the spot.”

“Then we’ll get married here.”

I smile wide, and we stand enjoying the view which is nothing but a field of grass and wild flowers. This here is a picturesque moment.

A loud pop is heard behind us.“What was that?”

ChapterTwenty-One

GRIFFIN

We watch as everyone scrambles and pulls out their guns to combat the gunfire happening.I get a glimpse of one of the men and notice they are the ones that were in cahoots with Dirt Machine Outlaws before we dismantled them.

My one concern is to get Astera to safety while at the same time helping by brothers.“I need to get you inside.Stay behind me, we have to move fast.”I tell her.

She nods in response, then say, “Be careful.”

We move quick, but being this far back from the door is going to put us out in the open.Taking my gun from the back of my jeans, I am ready to fire it as we make our move.“Now.”

Gunfire breaks all around us, and we duck down to try and avoid it.We make it halfway to the door when a shot comes directly at us, and hits Astera in the shoulder. The shot almost takes her down to the ground, but I push her up with one hand while firing my gun with my other hand, she makes it to safety. And as quick as it started, it stops.Silence envelopes around us.Worrying about Astera, I make my rounds to check the guys out.

“Anybody hurt?”I rush out.

“I’m good, here,” Cutter calls out.

“I got hit in the arm,” Lock says with pain lacing his voice.

“Good here,” Foster calls over to us.

Everyone confirms they are okay, and I rush inside, where I see Astera passed out in the hall.“Fuck!”

Foster rushes in after me.

“I need to get her to the hospital.”

Cutter follows Foster.“We normally don’t do hospitals because Cops ask questions.”

“Pay a nurse off not to report it.Can’t we call Hayden’s cousin, Everleigh?”
