Margo’s entire face lights up. “I was hoping you’d say that.”

“Before any of that, you guys have to let me get dressed and make myself presentable.Leave!” Winnie teases, beginning to shut the door to force them out.

“We’ll be back if you’re not done in ten minutes!” Pippa yells, throwing her arm over Emma right before Winnie completely slams the door.

Winnie turns and looks at me with a shy smile. She presses her back to the door, watching me closely.

I reach across the bed and pat the spot she vacated. “Come back to bed.”

“I’ve got to get ready to leave. And so do you.”

“No, we’re not leaving the room today,” I protest, even though I already know her well enough that she won’t agree to it.

Winnie rolls her eyes before pushing off the door and heading to the bathroom. “We’re leaving the room. I’m going to spend some time with my friends for the first time in forever, and you’re going to get to spend some time with the guys. We’ll have a great time, and then tonight, we’ll see each other again and…”

“And then we’ll fuck all night?” I offer, placingmy hands in my lap. I probably should get up, too, but I’m having too much fun watching her bring different outfit options to the mirror to decide what she wants to wear.

She glares at me through the mirror, holding up a cashmere sweater to her body.

“I like that one,” I tell her. “The pink reminds me of the same color your cheeks turn when you blush.”

“Sometimes you say really sweet things.”

I smile, climbing out of bed and closing the distance between us. My arms wrap around her middle as my chin comes to rest on her shoulder. “I can say even sweeter things with my face buried between your thighs.”

“Archer!” She playfully elbows me but still leans deeper into the embrace. For a moment, we stay locked in it, the two of us watching each other through the mirror. It feels so…normal. Like something a typical married couple who are in love would do in the morning. I close my eyes for a moment, savoring it, knowing that things between us are far more complicated.

“Just pointing out the truth.” I kiss her cheek. “I definitely vote yes on the sweater. Although, I already want to rip it off you.”

Winnie swallows slowly, keeping her eyes pinned on mine through the mirror. “I haven’t even put it on yet.”

I shrug, backing up to allow her to finish getting ready even though I don’t want to. “My point still stands.”

“Then, I’ll wear it…just for you.”

I give her a smile of approval. Fuck, what is she doing to me? I don’t think I’ve smiled this much in my life, and yet I can’t stop myself from doing it around her.

She strips out of the robe and lets it fall to the ground. It doesn’t take her long to get dressed in the sweater and a pair of jeans.

Finally, I realize I should probably stop watching her get ready and get myself ready. Although I’d much prefer stayinglocked in this room with her all day, I do think I’ll enjoy myself with the guys. There are worse things I could be doing.

Speaking of worse things, my phone vibrates on the nightstand. Winnie works on pulling her hair into a ponytail on the top of her head as I walk to grab my phone.

I sigh, seeing my dad’s caller ID on the screen. The last thing I want to do is talk to him right now. I’d actually like to forget all about work for once, but I answer it anyway because I know that’s what’s expected of me.

“Hi,” I clip out, wanting to cut to the point.

“Archer. There’s been a new development. I need you back in the office as soon as possible.”

I look at Winnie, who curiously watches me through the mirror as she ties a ribbon around her ponytail. “I’ll be back in on Monday.”

“Monday?” My dad doesn’t bother to hide the shock in his voice. Typically, if he asks me to jump, I ask how high. Any other time he’d tell me he needed me in the office, I’d show up there. Not this time. I promised Winnie we’d have this weekend with her friends, and I don’t want to go back on my promise.

“Yes, Monday. I’ll get to it first thing.”

My dad sighs. “This isn’t like you, Archer. Is it the Bishop girl?”

I turn my back to her. I know there’s no way she can hear my dad through the phone, but I do it just in case. “I’ll get to it on Monday.”
