“To being young and hot!” Emma cheers, sticking her tongue out.

“To being young and hot,” both Pippa and I repeat, clinking our glasses together.

Margo just sits there for a moment, staring at the mimosa in her hand.

My eyebrows scrunch on my forehead. “Mar?” I prod, leaning forward to tap her knee.

Her eyes meet mine. “I think I’m pregnant,” she blurts, her eyes wide.

“What?” Emma shrieks, almost tackling Margo.

“Oh my god!” Pippa gasps.

“Margo,” I whisper, happiness overtaking me as I squeeze her leg.

She hands me her drink and pulls the twisted towel from her hair. “I don’t know if I am or not. You know Beck and I have been trying, and it really hasn’t been in the cards for us yet. We kind of stopped talking about it and decided it would happen when it was meant to be. But I woke up this morning feeling nauseous, and my boobs hurtsobad.”

Pippa looks like a lightbulb went off in her head. “Oh my god, is that why you were so insistent on finding somewhere with a chocolate croissant?”

Margo laughs. “It’s the only thing that sounded good. I thought that maybe it was just from traveling yesterday, but all morning while we’ve been here, I can’t get rid of this feeling that I’m pregnant.”

Emma jumps off the lounger and begins to race toward the women’s locker room door.

“Emma, where are you going?” I call.

“We’ve got to get dressed!” she yells as if the answer is completely obvious. “We have to get out of here so we can buy a test.”

“Oh my god, I don’t want to ruin everyone’s day by having you take a test with me. I can take it by myself. I don’t want to tell Beck and get his hopes up if it’s negative.” I hate the sad tone of Margo’s voice. This should be exciting.

“There’s nothing more I’d love than to be there when you take a test,” I tell her. “As long as you’reokay with that.”

“We’re here to support you whether it’s positive or negative,” Pippa adds, getting off my lounger and wrapping Margo into a hug.

“I’d love to have you guys there with me if you really don’t mind,” Margo says over Pippa’s shoulder. She laughs when Emma rushes through the door and starts throwing clothes at all of us.

“Emma! We’re coming,” I say, getting up and pulling the towel from my hair. We were supposed to get ready here before going to a vineyard, but we’ve got way better plans now.

“Then hurry up,” Emma demands, forcing her feet into the legs of her jeans.

“It really isn’t a rush.” Margo laughs, she and Pippa breaking the hug so the both of them can get dressed. “It’ll probably be negative anyway,” she adds.

I shake my head. “No. We aren’t putting that into the universe. It’ll be positive. Let’s go find out if our bestie is knocked up!” I tease.

All of us giddily get ready as quickly as possible before we talk about where the nearest store is.

“Emma, you really don’t have to watch me pee on the stick,” Margo says from the toilet inside the tiny corner store. The store only has one bathroom, so we’ve all piled inside as Margo sits on the toilet with her pants down, her eyes glaring at Emma, who apparently forgot what personal space is.

I laugh, looping my arm through Emma’s and pulling her back.

Emma looks over at me with a glare. “What? I’m just making sure she doesn’t miss!”

“I’m peeing on a stick—I can’t miss. I’ve done this before, you know,” Margo says, her eyes meeting all of ours.

“What if we turn around?” I offer, waving both Pippa and Emma to spin so at least Margo can pee in peace.

“Yes, maybe that’ll help,” Margo agrees, smiling at us before a loud snort comes from her chest. “I can’t believe I’m about to find out if I’m pregnant in a random gas station bathroom with all of you guys staring at me intensely.”
