“We aren’t in a hurry if you want to stay a while,” he tells me, not moving from his place in my doorway. The look in his eyes tells me exactly what’s on his mind. My body reacts the way I expect it to — instant heat and longing.

“We need to get going, don’t we?” I ask.

He chuckles in the doorway. “Don’t look so frightened. I’m not going to attack,” he says as he licks his lips in a way that sends my need to molten levels. “Unless that’s what you want.”

Yes!I want. Ireallywant. But the professor part of my brain tells me there’s more to life than sex. At the moment I can’t figure out exactly what that is.

I head to my bedroom. He follows, but doesn’t enter. I turn. “I’m ready to go,” I say within a couple of minutes, my words coming out too breathy, but I stay focused on my bag instead of him.

“Too bad. But there are more adventures in store,” he says as he pushes off the doorjamb and moves to my bed. He runs his fingers along my comforter, looking directly into my eyes. The heat flaring between us is enough to ignite the apartment, but then he grabs my bag and leaves my bedroom.

I take several moments to compose myself. I look around my lifeless apartment before following him to my front door and stepping out, locking it behind us. I’m sure our journey will be quick. I desperately want to relish every second of it, but I don’t know how to let my guard down. Maybe it’s better this way.

Blaze engages in small talk on our drive as I rethink my impulsive decision. I look at him as the sunrise lightens the sky.

“Where are we going?”

“On an adventure,” he says as he pulls up to a hangar at a private airport. I never saw a private airport before. Does this man have a lot of money? I don’t know anything about him. I’m going away with this man, but I seriously don’t know what sort of person he is. However, I can’t get myself to turn around.

“Are we flying?” It might seem like a stupid question since we’re in front of an airplane hangar, but it’s necessary.

“Yep, we’re getting out of Washington.”

He steps from the vehicle then walks around to my side and opens the door. I reluctantly climb out. “I thought we were just driving somewhere.”

“This is much more fun.” He opens the hangar’s door to a beautiful private plane, perfectly clean, and gleaming beneath the lights.

“Who’s flying it?”

“Me,” he says as he moves to the plane. He opens the door on the side and I look inside with fear.

“You can fly?” I question, not having much confidence in this.

He laughs. “Yep, this baby is mine. I haven’t flown it in years, but I fly wherever I am, and this was well taken care of in my absence.”

“I don’t know if I can do this,” I say, still not stepping forward.

“Why don’t you climb inside and look around while I do the pre-flight checks. If you absolutely don’t want to, we won’t. I’ll figure something else out.” His voice is so confident and calm, that I start moving forward.

It’s not a huge plane, but not small either. I climb the steps and go inside. There’s about a foot of space above my head and six seats in the back, in addition to two seats up front with all sorts of panels, buttons, and knobs. Blaze moves in behind me, then goes to the front and takes a seat. He starts pushing all sorts of buttons and lights come on.

There’s a small bathroom in the back of the plane and a small kitchen area. Other than that, it’s comfortable seating, top of the line materials, and something I never imagined I’d be in. This is how the wealthy live. Why is he a gigolo? Is it for fun? Is it because he likes sex with no commitment? Who knows? My parents are well off, but this is a whole other side of wealth.

After about twenty minutes, Blaze turns and looks at me. “Are you comfortable yet? We can leave any time,” he says, eagerness in his eyes.

If I do this, we’ll be pressed close together in this aircraft at least ten-thousand feet in the sky. I should be terrified, but I’m not afraid. I’m more afraid ofnotgoing. There’s freedom in letting go.

“Okay.” He helps me to my seat and I buckle in. He closes the plane, and before I have time to change my mind, he’s taxiing to the runway, talking on the radio, and then we’re lifting off.

My stomach stays on the ground for a while as we rise higher in the air. After my initial fear evaporates, I feel free. There’s something special about being in the air with this man as he masterfully controls a machine most people can’t begin to grasp how to operate.

There’s not much about Blaze I don’t appreciate and desire. Well, maybe this isn’t true. I don’t appreciate his ability to stick around only long enough for me to fall head over heels in love with him. He’s going to do it again. But this might be our fate, I decide.

“Are you ready for a mountain getaway?” Blaze asks after we’ve been up in the sky for a while.

“I guess,” I tell him. “I don’t go into the mountains often. Are you going to tell me where we’re going?”

“To a resort in Oregon where the air is pure, the trees are lush, and the water is heavenly. My dad took my mom there when they first started dating, so it’s somewhere I’ve always enjoyed going to. I don’t want to forget them.”
