“That’s too bad,” I mutter, confident I’ve kept my elation a secret.

Except – “You’re standing directly in front of a mirror, Mr. Doyle. You could at least pretend the situation is upsetting,” Zoe informs me. Busted. “Do you always get your way?” Thankfully, she sounds curious, not mad.

“Not really,” I tell her, “though I do believe my luck is changing.” I wink to let her know I’m implying she’s the reason.

Her.

Yes, I’m freaking ecstatic about my impending fatherhood. Can’t wait until he or she is here. They already own my heart.

As does its mother.

**Zoe**

Secret time.

I’m excited to be staying with Walker.

This isn’t the way I wanted it to happen, but I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t imagined it.

Am I that desperate for a family?

You did pay money to have an anonymous man’s baby.

And yet, I know the guy’s name and I’m going to his house.

When there’s no rebuttal, I say a mental ‘so there,’ and walk toward my bedroom to finish gathering what I’ll need.

“I’m finishing up now,” I assure him, hoping he isn’t worried I plan on camping out and never leaving.

I jump a little when I realize he followed me. “This it?” It being a big suitcase and one duffel bags.

“Uh…”

“Bring whatever you think you’ll need. Hell, bring all of it.”

“This is only temporary, Walker.”

“Doesn’t have to be.”

I plop on my mattress. “What are you saying?”

“Full honesty?”

“Please,” I ask.

“I feel bad that your residence is having issues, but not that it will result in you coming to live with me.”

“For the short term.”

“Again, it doesn’t have to be.”

“More honesty?”

“All of it,” he promises. “Hypothetically, if I were to suggest a marriage, one of convenience if you will, would you freak out?”

“Hypothetically?” He nods. “No.”

“Not hypothetically?”
