“Who is he?” I furrowed my brows.

“I don’t know. He just asked if you owned the place and if you were here.”

Shit. I knew who it was.

“Thanks, Riley. Tell him I’ll be out in a minute.” I sighed.

I washed my hands, dried them, and took in a deep breath before facing my father.

“Dad, what are you doing here?”

“I came to see my daughter. Wow, Zoey. You’re pregnant.”

“Is it that obvious?” I smirked as I placed my hand on my belly.

“You didn’t tell me. Why?”

“Life kind of got in the way, Dad.”

“You’re wearing a wedding ring.”

“Yeah. I got married. Got pregnant first, though.” I smiled.

“You look good, Zoey. I hope you married a good man.”

“He’s the best man in the world. In fact, he’s Riley’s dad’s brother.”

“I’d like to meet him.”

“Maybe some—oh, look at who just walked in.” I shot Riley a look, and she shrugged.

“Hey, babe.” Carter walked over and kissed me.

“What are you doing here, Carter?”

“I was on my way home and thought I’d stop in to see my beautiful wife.”

“At three o’clock in the afternoon?” I cocked my head.

“Yeah. I left early. Hi, I’m Carter Kind.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Carter. I’m Joseph Morgan. You can call me Joe.”

“What brings you by?” Carter asked.

“I just wanted to see my daughter. Zoey, do you think we can go somewhere and talk?”

“How about you come by the house for dinner?” Carter said, and I almost killed him. “I’ll stop at Four Kinds and pick up some food. Say around five o’clock?”

“I’d like that.” My dad smiled.

“Riley, hand me a piece of paper and a pen, please,” Carter said, writing down our address and handing it to my father. “We’ll see you at five, Joe.”

“Great. Thank you. I’ll see you, Zoey.”

“See you, Dad.” I nodded.

“Oh, you’re in so much trouble,” Riley said to Carter.
