“Again? You do that at least once a year.”

“Because we keep growing and growing. Before you know it, the kids will be grown, and we’ll be standing here as old men.”

“Says you.” Simon furrowed his brows. “Hey, Prim. You sweet little angel.”

“Primrose, Simon. Primrose.”

“Yeah, okay.” He laughed. “Oh shit. Mom’s walking away with Milo. I need to go rescue my son.” He ran down the beach.

“He’ll never change.” Sam sighed.

“Do you really want him to?” I asked.

“Nah. He’ll always be Simon.” A smirk crossed his lips.

“Sam, can you come here for a minute?” Julia shouted.

“My wife needs me.” He smiled.

I took Primrose down by the water and watched my brothers surf.

They waved, and I laughed as Grayson fell off his board.

“Here you go.” Zoey walked over with my surfboard and set it in the sand. “Go have fun with your brothers. I’ll take Prim.”

“Thanks, babe.” I kissed her, grabbed my board, and put it in the water. “It’s Primrose, Zoey. Primrose.” I shouted.

I surfed with Nathan and my brothers until Sebastian shouted it was time to eat. I sat and stared at my family as they ate, laughed, and talked amongst each other. This was what family was all about, and I was grateful to have found these amazing people who were my family: the Kind Family.

“Are you okay?” Zoey asked as she stroked the back of my neck.

“I’m great, babe. Life doesn’t get any better than this.” I smiled as I leaned over and kissed her.

EPILOGUE

“There.” I smiled as I held up the large tumor I extracted, examined it, and dropped it in the basin.

“Would you like me to close, Dr. Kind?” one of the residents asked.

“That’s okay. I’ll do it.” I smiled.

“Good work, Dr. Kind.” I heard over the O.R. intercom.

I looked up at the operating theater and saw my dad standing there with his hands tucked tightly into his pants pockets.

“Thanks, Dad.”

“Don’t forget your mother is cooking for us tonight.”

“I haven’t forgotten. I’ll be there.” I smiled.

After closing my patient’s head, I tore off my scrub cap and gloves and walked out of the O.R.

“You know, Ella. You really need to let your residents do some of the closings.” My dad hooked his arm around me as we walked down the hall.

“I know, Dad. But this patient is extra special. I wanted to do it myself.”

He kissed the side of my head. “I’ll see you at dinner tonight.”
