“Umm, whose boat is this? Are we allowed to get on it?”

“It’s mine.” I grinned. “I bought it last week.”

“Shut up. You bought this yacht?”

“I did. Come see the inside.” I grabbed her hand and took her downstairs.

“Oh, my God, Carter. This is beautiful.” She looked around. “Jesus, I’ve never been on a yacht before. How many bedrooms does it have?”

“Four. You don’t get seasick, do you?”

“No. Why?”

“Because we’re taking her out for a while.” I smiled. “I had the refrigerator stocked today with food and drinks. There’s also a fully loaded bar. So, as soon as I get this baby out on the water, I’ll make you a drink. By the way. my family, other than Shaun, doesn’t know about this, so it’s our secret.”

“Why wouldn’t you have told them?” Her brows furrowed.

“Because it’s a surprise for my brothers. Their birthday is next weekend, and we’re having an all-day party for them. Shaun has a boat for himself and his brothers, and Jackson, Nathan, Conner, and Christian have their own. When they take them out, they find a spot, tie them together, and we hop from boat to boat. I wanted my brothers and I to have our own boat to take out whenever we wanted.”

“Damn, you know how to give some awesome gifts, Kind.” A grin crossed her lips.

After setting sail, I made us a drink, and we went and sat on one of the couches on the deck.

“It’s so beautiful out here,” she said as she stared out into the water.

“Yeah. It truly is. Can I ask you something?”

“Sure. What?”

“Who’s Quinton?”

Her eye narrowed at me as she sipped her drink.

“How do you know about him?”

“You mentioned something about sabotaging your relationship with him in your little rant back at my house earlier.”

“First, I didn’t rant. Second, he’s my ex.”

“You did rant.” I smiled. “Spill the tea, Zoe. What happened?”

She stared into my eyes, and I could sense the hesitation in her.

“He cheated on me, so I broke it off.”

“Okay, but that doesn’t explain how you sabotaged your relationship.”

“Why are you so interested?” she asked.

“I’m intrigued.” The corners of my mouth curved upward. “You tell me what I want to know, and then I’ll get into the story of my father and brothers.”

“Fine.” She sighed. “We were together for six months. I wasn’t feeling it and knew it was time to leave, so I may or may not have made time for him or us, and he got frustrated and cheated on me.”

“I’m sorry he cheated on you. You must have been really hurt.”

“Oh, no. Not at all. I was happy he did. It was my way out without looking like the bad guy.” She smiled.

“Somehow, I get the feeling you did it on purpose, knowing he’d cheat.”
