“Oh, it’s there, cousin,” he shouted. “It’s there!”

I glanced at the clock. It was noon when Charles, my attorney, stepped into my office.

“Here’s the contract you wanted drawn up, Carter.”

“Thanks, Charles.” I took it from his hand.

“A bakery?” His brow arched. “That’s unlike you.”

“I know. I’m helping a friend of mine. Thanks for doing this so quickly.”

“You’re welcome.” He smiled and left the office.

I picked up my phone from my desk and texted Zoey.

“Where are you?”

“Obviously, in your head, if you’re asking.”

“Why do you have to be such a smart ass?”

“What can I say? You bring it out in me.” She attached the smile emoji.

“Just wait until I see you.” I attached the eggplant emoji.

“Am I supposed to be scared?”

I shook my head as a smile crossed my lips.

“You should be because you know the things I can do to you. Anyway, the contract is ready to be signed.”

“I’ll be there within the hour, Mr. Kind.”

“See you soon, Miss Morgan.”

As promised, Zoey walked into my office within the hour, looking as sexy as ever.

“Hi.” I smiled.

“Hi.” A bright smile crossed her lips.

“Let’s go over to the table.” I gestured as I grabbed the contract from my desk. “Read it over carefully first.”

She picked it up and looked it over within three seconds. “Is this where I sign?” She pointed to the bottom of the page.

“There is no way you read that so fast.” I furrowed my brows.

“Yes, I did. Would you like me to recite it for you?”

“Actually, I would.”

She began reciting the contract, word for word, as she stared at me. I stopped her.

“Okay. You read it.” I handed her a pen. “You sign first.”

She signed her name on the dotted line and then handed me my pen back. As I signed my name next to hers, my phone rang. Walking over to my desk, I saw the bank was calling. I answered it and put it on speaker.

“Carter Kind.”
