I reached in the back seat and grabbed the shop design Sam did, punched in the code to Carter’s house, and stepped inside. A few moments later, Ava walked through the door.

“Wine?” I asked her.

“Of course. Great ideas are always discussed over a glass of wine.” She grinned.

“Or a bottle.” I smiled. “How about a can of pineapple to go with our wine.”

“Uh, no thanks.” She burst out into laughter.

I took our wine over to the table and set the glasses down.

“Tell me your vision,” Ava said.

“Contemporary Modern, white, pink, and gold.”

“Oh! I love it.” She grabbed her pencil. “Oh, my God. I just had the best idea. But I’m not sure Shaun will go for it.”

“Go for what? Tell me!” I asked with excitement.

“We need to change the front door and window.”

“Do you think he’ll go for that?” I twisted my face.

“Shaun is so easy going and you did save his company from the people who were embezzling, so he should do what you ask.”

“You’re right.” I grinned. “I thought this wall here would be perfect for a hand-painted mural. You wouldn’t, by chance, know someone who could do that, would you?” My lips gave way to a small smile.

“Carter told you?”

“He did. The other day, I was admiring the painting in his office and asked him who painted it. He told me about Freya and the others.”

“I’m sure Freya would love to paint a mural for your bakery. What do you think?” She turned her notepad to me, and I stared at the redesign of the outside of the bakery.

“It’s perfect. Now, all I need to do is convince Shaun.”

Ava glanced at her watch. “I better get home.”

We stood from our chairs and hugged.

“Thank you, Ava.”

“You’re welcome, sweetie. I’ll see you tomorrow, and we’ll start shopping for everything. Let me know what Shaun says about the front of the building.”

“I will.”

CHAPTER 23

Zoey

Not long after Ava left, Carter walked through the door, carrying a few grocery bags.

“Hi.” He smiled as he set them on the island. “I’m going to run upstairs and change before starting dinner.”

“Okay.” A smile crossed my lips.

I walked over to the bags and started unpacking them. Pulling out two cans of pineapple, I rolled my eyes and shook my head. Sticking my hand in another bag, I pulled out a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and stared at it.

“You bought ice cream?” I asked when he walked into the kitchen.
