“Thank you, bro,” they both spoke.

“How’s Zoey?” Gabriel asked.

“She’s good.” I smiled.

“She’s spent the last two nights at your place. Things getting serious?” Grayson asked.

I brought my cup to my lips and took a sip of coffee. “No. I don’t get serious when it comes to women.”

“You invested in her bakery.” Gabriel’s brow arched.

“Because it’s a business investment, nothing else.”

“And if the relationship goes bad?” Grayson asked.

“What relationship? Zoey and I aren’t in one. We’re friends having fun.”

“Okay. When the fun ends?” Gabriel said.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. What time are we meeting on the boats?”

“Noon. Don’t be late.” Grayson pointed at me.

“I won’t.” I chuckled. “Enjoy your birthday morning. I’ll see you two on the boat.” I smiled as I stood up, fist-bumped them, and went back to my house.

I was starting to get worried because it was ten-thirty, Zoey wasn’t back yet, and we needed to leave in forty-five minutes. Just as I pulled out my phone to call her, the front door opened, and she walked in.

“There you are. We have to leave in forty-five minutes.”

“I know. Sorry. It won’t take me long to get ready.”

I walked over to her, gripped her hips, and kissed her lips.

“You taste and smell like cake.” I smirked.

“The perks of baking.” She smiled. “I’m going to jump in the shower.”

“Now you have forty minutes,” I said.

“Don’t worry, Kind. I’ll be ready.”

I smiled as she ran up the stairs. That was something she did on a regular basis—made me smile. Forty minutes on the dot, we were out the door and headed to the marina. Stepping on my boat, I went down into the cabin and saw white boxes lining the counter.

“Cake and cupcakes?” I asked her.

“Yep. Try one.” She opened the lid to one of the boxes and took out a cupcake.

“What kind is this one?”

“You’ll see.” She grinned.

I bit into it and slowly closed my eyes.

“Fuck, Zoey. This is amazing.”

“Thanks. And guess what?”

“What?” I took another bite.
