The sound of laughter reverberated from the tunnel just then, and a flash of what looked awfully like terror streaked across her perfect features.

I finally skated closer to her, unable to keep myself away.

She was staring at me warily now, like the sound of other people had broken a spell.

“Hey Walk, there’s a huge party upstairs, you coming?” Tommy called, his arm around a puck bunny that stalked the team relentlessly.

“In a minute,” I said back, raising my eyebrows in what I hoped was the sign for…you should put three condoms on if you touch that girl’s pussy.

He just smirked and disappeared out of sight.

“I should probably head home,” she murmured, a note of dejection in her pretty voice.

A knot formed in the pit of my stomach at her words, and panic surged through me, like an electric shock—the trifecta complete when a cold sweat broke out on my forehead.

"No—I mean…why?" I finally managed to choke out.

“So you can go celebrate?” she said slowly, like she didn’t know why she was leaving either.

“I think you should celebrate with me.”

Again that fear, that I desperately wanted to understand, spilled across her features.

“You’ve seen most of us at our worst already,” I cajoled. “Everyone will get much dumber and much drunker, but that’s about it.”

I grabbed her hand, trying to keep the awe off my face at how fucking soft her skin was.

She didn’t need to know that I would be the only hand she’d be holding for the rest of her life.

CHAPTER 4

WALKER

“Just for a minute, maybe,” she murmured, her gaze dancing around the arena like she was looking for someone. Everyone not allowed to stay would be out of the building by now. Was she looking for a guy she’d come with?

I gritted my teeth, jealousy splitting through me at the thought.

Okay…that was weird.

I was not the jealous type.

Never had been.

But right now I was dying at the thought there could be someone else.

It didn’t matter if there was someone else. I would fix that.

Okay crazy…

“We could go somewhere quieter if you didn’t want to go to the party,” I said hesitantly.

Her beautiful eyes flashed with interest. “What did you have in mind?”

Back to my place was honestly all I had. I wasn’t exactly one of those cool people that knew all the quiet, sexy places in town where no one bothered you.

Taco trucks were more my jam if I was going to go out.

I lifted my hands in the universal “don’t freak out” motion, which probably only made everyone freak out more.
