I sigh because I can’t be mad at him. It’s not his fault for not knowing. I’m about to say something to him, when I see Sheila and Andrew walk over. They are smiling and holding hands. They look so happy together. Brian follows my gaze and we all exchange greetings.

“So, what’s the story with you and Candy?” Brian asks curiously.
I quickly fill him in, with a sigh. He listens sympathetically and nods.
“I had a similar situation back in high school, too. It takes a while to get over, but eventually it passes. Now it doesn’t bother me anymore, especially when I’m standing here with you.”
He says that last part down low, as if it’s meant for only me to hear.
I smile at him again.
“See? Like right there. I like your smile. I like everything about you. I meant what I said earlier about you being hotter than Candy, or anyone, really. You’re the hottest girl I have ever seen,” he whispers.
