“What are you doin’?” Knight asks as I type away at the keyboard.

“Somethin’s off with that family of hers,” I tell him.

“Like what?”

“I don’t know. I get a bad vibe from her uncle,” I tell him as he sits next to me. I keep typing, trying to find out all I can about them. It may be none of my business, but I’m still going to check.

“What do you think it is?” he asks.

“Couldn’t really say. I just don’t like the vibe I get.”

“Could be anything then, Ridge. You asked her about it?”

“She doesn’t want to talk about it. When I brought up her family, she closed off.”

“Might be none of your business then, yeah?”

“Probably not, but when has that ever stopped me?” I ask, grinning at him. I look back at the screen in front of me and continue my search, but I don’t find anything. Shouldn’t that be a good thing? Shouldn’t I be happy nothing came up? To a normal person, it would be, but not me. That means it’s in the family, and Olson isn’t going to tell me about it. I guess I have two weeks of them being there to figure it out on my own.

“Fuck, I got nothin’.”

“And you’re mad about that?” Knight asks me. I sit back in the chair and glance over at him.

“At least if I knew what it was, I could use it against him.” I cross my arms over my chest as I try to think about it.

“You ain’t gonna stop, are you?” He smirks at me as I shake my head.

“Not a chance in hell,” I tell him.

“You really care that much?” I scratch the scruff on my jaw and nod my head.

“Yeah, I do. I’m not sure why, though. I like bein’ around her, but there’s somethin’ else too. She’s closed off to most people. She doesn’t even like the fame or the money that comes with her job. I don’t get why she does it.”

“Then ask her. Maybe she’ll break down and tell you. If not, get her drunk. They all talk when they’re drunk,” he laughs.

“That’s true, too.” I shove out of my chair and walk to the main room to see her sitting on a chair by herself. Then I look up at the wall and see that she’s finished the painting, and it looks amazing.

I walk over and stand next to her, resting my hand on her shoulder. She looks up at me with pride in her eyes and smiles.

“You like it?”

“It’s perfect, Princess. Fuckin’ perfect,” I tell her. It looks amazing, better than the first one.

“Damn, that looks good,” I hear Tarek coming up behind us.

“You like it?” she asks, glancing over at him now.

“I love it. You kicked ass,” he tells her. She grins and looks back at me, the happiest look on her face that I’ve seen since she’s been here.

“I’m glad you guys like it. Thank you for trusting me to do it.”

“You keep that work up, and we might find you more to do,” Tarek tells her.

“She won’t be here. Big superstar and all that,” I tell him. I wasn’t trying to sound like an asshole, but I think it came out that way.

“I’m not that big,” she denies softly.

“Sure.”
