“Phoenix is going to want a double date soon.”

“We’re not together,” I mumble back to him.

“Hm,” he grunts. “Fix that then.”

He’s gone before I can argue or reply. Eden stands, eyeing me warily and I cross my arms over my chest so that I don’t reach for her.

“Are you going to walk home?” I ask her and she narrows her eyes.

“Yes,” she says primly and I wave a hand, indicating for her to go ahead of me.

We head out of City Hall and back toward our houses. My stomach growls as we pass by the deli and I grab Eden’s elbow, steering her inside.

“What are you doing?” she asks, jerking her arm away from me.

“Buying you lunch.”

Her stomach growls and she crosses her arms over her chest. The action pushes her breasts up and my wolf licks his lips as we both enjoy the view.

We step up to the counter and I let Eden order first. She gets the club sandwich and I find myself ordering the same. I want to feel close to her, even if that closeness is just eating the same food as her.

I pay and we stand in silence as we wait for them to make our meal. I got the food to go so I could be alone with my Eden.

"Order for Ryker," a bored-looking teen calls and I step forward, grabbing the bag.

The teen's eyes widen and he bows his head slightly when he recognizes me.

“Have a good day, sir,” he says and I nod.

“You too.”

I put my hand on the small of Eden’s back and lead her outside. She reaches for the bag and I smile as she grabs her sandwich, handing me the bag back as she unwraps her sandwich and bites into it.

We finish off our food as we walk up the path to her front door. She trips over her feet and I steady her, not for the first time today. We both ignore her tripping and bumping into things, but as I follow her up to the door, I start to wonder if maybe she should have her eyes checked. That could explain her clumsiness.

She unlocks the door as I stuff my sandwich wrapper into the empty bag. As soon as the door swings open, she rushes in, trying to slam the door in my face. I smile to myself as I push the door open and walk over to where the saw is still sticking out of the wood by the stairs.

She sighs as she closes the door and I grip the saw, cutting along the line that she had marked earlier.

“Why don’t you make a list of everything that needs to be done around here?” I ask her as I finish sawing and lift the board, putting it on the broken stairs.

“I want to help,” she argues.

“That would be a help. Then we know what to work on next and what supplies to get.”

She doesn’t seem convinced, so I wave her over.

“Help me screw in this board and then we can get started on a list,” I amend and she stands, heading my way.

I hand her the drill and the screw and point to where she should drill it in. She takes a shaky breath and I wonder briefly if holding it while she does this is a smart move for me, but I don’t want to upset her or make her doubt herself.

She screws in the first screw, her hands shaking slightly. I want to take over, but then she smiles and she looks so proud of herself. I can’t take that away from her, so I just pass her another screw.

She gets better and better with the drill as we go, and by the time the step is finished, she’s holding it like an old pro.

“Ready to make a list?” I ask, picking up the saw and some other supplies.

“Yeah.”
