“Are you going to spank me, Mr. Peters?”

I bite back a smile at his antics, because the look on our principal’s face says he’s in for it, and that means Brady is going to find out...which means we’ll both have to deal with his grumpy ass when we get home. I hate that I’m more afraid ofhis reaction than our parents’, but I am. I don’t want to be the reason he’s angry.

To my surprise,it isn’t Brady waiting for me when I get home. Austin is sitting in the kitchen with my mom and stepdads and Dylan. He was suspended for the day, but the little grin he gives me tells me he doesn’t regret what he did.

“Uh, hi,” I say, hesitating near the table.

“Sit down, honey.” Mom gestures to a chair.

I swallow and nod, taking my seat like a good girl. “You know it wasn’t Dylan’s fault. He was only trying to save me. Richard, an alpha in our grade, keeps cornering me, and today, he was being horrible and Dylan caught him. He shouldn’t be in trouble.”

“Aw, Quinny.” Dylan slaps his hand to his chest. “Defending my honor?”

“Shut up, Dylan,” Austin growls at the same time my stepdads turn parental glares on the youngest brother.

Dylan mimes zipping his lips.

“Dylan isn’t in trouble, Quinn,” Wyatt says. “But we are concerned about the situation. Why didn’t you tell us someone was bothering you?”

“I thought he would stop,” I admit. Given that I didn’t reciprocate his advances, I’d really thought Richard would move on.

The alphas in the room all share knowing looks. My gaze meets Mom’s and she releases a soft sigh. “I hate to admit that, in this life, some people will take whatever they want, regardless of if you’re willing, which is why Brady insisted Austin teach you some self-defense.”

The oldest brother is noticeably absent. Dylan gives Austin a questioning look that I don’t understand and Austin simply shrugs.

“Is that really necessary?” I ask.

“Hell, yes,” Dylan says, but instantly shuts his mouth when his dads glare at him again.

“We’ll go at whatever pace you’re comfortable with,” Austin says. “But knowing some basic self-defense can help you out of some situations.”

Some, but not all. I grimace at that implication. I hate feeling vulnerable. If learning to take care of myself will keep Dylan out of trouble, then I’ll do it. I only wish my teacher wasn’t also one of my scent matches, but Austin is better than Brady or Dylan.

I was wrong.Nothing about working with Austin is easier than dealing with Brady and Dylan. If anything, the way he’s careful with me and the soft touches at the small of my back while he adjusts my stance slowly kill me. Death by a thousand caresses.

“Okay,” he says at my back. “Ready?”

My heart flutters and my body buzzes at his proximity. We’ve done this move a hundred times in the last two weeks, but my omega instincts still practically moan at the thought of his arms wrapping around me.

“Quinn?”

“Yeah, I’m ready.”

His movements are fast. One moment, I’m standing free, and the next, I’m captured, my back pinned against his chest as one of his arms wraps around my throat. My stomach flips for all the wrong reasons. Moving the way he taught me, I slip my fingersbetween his arm and my throat, tuck my chin, and lean forward. His breath is hot against my neck, but I try to ignore the way I shiver in response and shift, positioning my foot behind his. My ass presses against his groin, and I suck in a breath when I feel something hard.

It means nothing.

It’s a natural response.

My pussy clamps, aching for a knot. God, this is embarrassing. Thank fuck for descenting lotion and scent-wicking underwear.

I continue with the move, staying tucked forward and turning out to break the hold.

“Fuck yes, Quinn. You did so good.”

My inner omega preens, and I avoid his gaze, rushing away from him to grab my water bottle, which I left on the far end of the mats. Facing the wall, I take a drink. Every hair on the back of my neck rises as he approaches, and I swallow the water, hating the way my legs tremble.

This is torture.
