My lungs seize, and I slowly turn back toward the alpha who makes my blood boil. I hold Brady’s gaze, wondering if he sees the panic on my face. Wondering if he can smell my desire, wondering if he knows how much I want him. He gives a hard shake of his head.

“He says he’s busy.”

“Bullshit,” Trenton snaps. “Brady, I know you can hear me. We need to talk about the Thorton merger.”

“Take us into the living room, Quinn,” Mom adds.

I draw in a shallow breath. “Okay.” Heart pounding, blood rushing, pussy aching, I do as I’m told, stiffly taking a seat on the couch and propping the phone up on the coffee table.

Brady grudgingly follows, sitting on the far end of the couch. “Let’s talk,” he says, voice gravelly.

“It’d be nice to talk to your face and not a cushion,” Trenton says with a laugh. “Quinn doesn’t bite.”

A hot flush crawls up my neck and time slows. Brady places his palm on the cushion between us. The muscles in his forearm flex, and he scoots over until we’re nearly touching and he’s fully in the frame. Tension coils around him, bunching his shoulders. He clenches his jaw. Our thighs brush, a simple, seemingly innocent touch, and yet every fiber of my being focuses on the electricity rippling over my skin. My lungs burn and I take a breath. His cedarwood aroma slams into me, and I stifle a whine. Honey and musk blooms around us. My perfume.

Heady.

Desperate.

Needy.

I bite the inside of my cheek, using the pain to ground myself. I will not embarrass myself on this phone call.

Brady’s fingers clutch his pants, knuckles turning white. “What’s going on with the merger?”

I don’t know how he’s speaking. I can barely breathe without thinking about his knot and how good it would feel filling me. Pumping me full of his hot cum. I squeeze my legs together, easing some of the ache.

He and Trenton discuss things. Brady’s hand moves to the side of his leg, knuckles scarcely grazing my bare skin. I suck in a breath. My gaze flies to him, but he’s staring at the phone. Was that an accident?

He leans forward, and the movement causes our legs to rub together again. My scent grows so thick, I nearly choke. More slick coats my thighs. It’s embarrassing. Brady stiffens and slowly cuts his gaze in my direction.

Our eyes collide. His are dilated. The vein on the side of his head is throbbing, and his nostrils flare as he inhales. I press my legs together as hard as I can, but it’s no use. My body has already betrayed me. His attention drops to my thighs. The material of my robe is dangerously high on my legs, barely covering me. This fucking robe. I should have made Trenton wait. I should have put on the descenting lotion. I should have put on clothes.

But then I would have missed the way Brady’s eyes grow hooded with desire or the way he licks his lips, like he’s ready to devour me.

“—and send out the memo tomorrow morning.”

“Okay,” Brady tells Trenton, keeping his gaze trained on me.

“Oh, Quinn,” Mom cuts in. “My friend Cece’s son’s pack is recently single, and she and I got to chatting and, well, I set you up on a date for next Saturday.”

“A date?” I choke out.

“Oh, yes. Trust me, Cece’s son is very handsome, and I know how lonely it can be without a pack and well...I just thought maybe I could help. Will you do it for me, honey?”

Brady’s eyes narrow into slits, eviscerating me. I wrench my gaze away from his face and look at the screen. Mom looks so hopeful. Like this date will change my world.

I should say no, but I find myself agreeing to the date. The alpha beside me shifts closer, body pressing into mine. My attention strays back to Brady. He turns his head more so they can’t see his fury.

End the call, he mouths with a stormy look that has my thighs pressing together.

“Uh”—my voice trembles—“Mom, I really need to get dressed. Can I call you later?”

Mom chuckles. “Oh, right. Sorry, Quinn. Yes, let’s talk later. Brady, take care of my baby, okay?”

“I’ll take care of her,” he says, voice so husky, it’s a miracle no one is asking what’s wrong with him.

“Bye,” I tell Mom and Trenton, lunging for the phone and ending the call before things get super awkward. Clutching it to my chest, I stand and run for my room.
