Kemp growls, “The fuck did you just say?”

“You heard me,” I shoot back at him. Maybe if I launch myself across my desk at him it’ll make me feel better. It probably won’t, but I think I might be willing to take the risk right now. “We had to let her do whatever it was she was doing before, but not anymore. Not now that she’s here,” there’s a desperation in my voice I know my brothers can hear.

“What’s the party?” Jordan has gotten his surprise under control and I’m a little shocked with how fucking calm and collected he is right now.

I’m freaking the fuck out and Kemp is right there with me. How can Jordan be cool about this?

We all know what Club Ecstasy is about. It’s a well-known sex club in the city and before we saw a picture of Lennon, we were all members. Why wouldn’t we be? It’s a hell of a lot safer there than at some of the clubs in Phoenix.

I haven’t been there in a long fucking time, and I know the same is true for my brothers.

“It’s a key party,” I seethe.

The idea of another man drawing Lennon’s key and her spending the night with him—or them—has me seeing fucking red. I’m about a second away from standing up and flipping my desk over.

Jordan shrugs one shoulder. “I still know a few people who work there from when we were members. I could probably get her application thrown out.” I take a breath, the first full one I’ve been able to take since I saw the site she visited and why. “Or,” Jordan singsongs the word and then trails off like the fuckface he is.

“Or fucking what, Jordan?” Kemp is practically foaming at the mouth.

It would maybe be comical to see Kemp so worked up, since he’s normally far more indifferent, if this weren’t so fucking serious. I nod and stare at our youngest brother, willing him to finish his damn thought.

“Or we let her go through with it,” he drops the words, and they detonate like a bomb. I start to lunge for him, not giving a fuck when my coffee mug falls to the ground and shatters. “And we make sure we’re the ones who pull her key,” he rushes out right before my hands grip the collar of his shirt.

I’m almost all the way over my desk now and my hands drop as I blink at my youngest brother. My brain is having problems processing his suggestion. I’m not sure if it’s because I can’t believe I didn’t think of it or if it’s because it’s so damn brilliant.

Kemp’s voice is full of curiosity, “How could we guarantee we’d be the ones to get her key?”

“Pay someone off,” Jordan huffs like he was just asked the stupidest question known to man.

He’s not fucking wrong though.

I sit back in my chair, ignoring the mess on my floor which I’ll clean up once this is sorted. As I rub the underside of my jaw, I think about Jordan’s idea. It would be a way for her to meet us without knowing who we are. We can see if there’s a connection between us before she tries to shut it down because we’re her stepbrothers and she’s working with us.

“It could work,” Kemp throws out there, as if he knows exactly what I’m thinking.

Jordan rolls his eyes. “Of course it will work,” his tone is full of a cocky confidence which almost makes me smile.

“But what if it doesn’t.”

“It will,” he throws back at me without even a little bit of hesitation.

The idea of getting Lennon for a night without her knowing who we are is appealing as fuck. Club Ecstasy would be the perfect setting and it would be anonymous. At least to her.

“She might hate us when she finds out the truth,” you can hear the wince in my words.

Kemp glares at me. “Do you have a better idea?”

I shake my head and sigh because I don’t think we can come up with anything better. She’s not starting work until Monday and the party is on Saturday. We would have no reason to know her plans or make demands of her.

I look at Jordan and hope like hell he can pull this off. “Make it happen.”

He’s jaunty as fuck when he stands up and gives me a mocking salute. I bark out a laugh which has him grinning at me before he slips out of my office.

“This better fucking work,” Kemp grumbles as he walks out after our youngest brother.

As I start to clean up my broken mug and spilled coffee, I have to agree with Kemp. This better fucking work.
