My wife wasn’t just another pretty face.

I knew that from the first moment I laid eyes on her. Montana trusted her like no other and the history they both shared proved that point many times over. I wasn’t lying when I called Montana out on his indifference when it came to my wife. His love for her was evident. He doted on her, made sure to involve her in everything, and frequently sought her counsel. He ought to have realized that she was shrewd, cunning, and highly knowledgeable about the internal bylaws of this club.

If he hadn’t before, he sure as fuck knew it now.

We all did.

Hearing my door open, I glanced over to see both Montana and Largo walk in. Looking up at them both, I said nothing.

What was there to say?

Montana couldn’t go against the club and Largo had tied our hands. I hope she fucking knew what she signed up for because she chose this route. Now it was almost time to pay the piper.

“Caleb.”

Downing the last of my whiskey, I placed the glass on my desk.

“How did you know about the clause?”

“I didn’t,” Montana fumed. “I was as fucking shocked as you.”

“Wasn’t talking to you, asshole,” I sneered, looking at my soon-to-be wife. I thought it funny that even after everything that happened, she fucking knew I’d still take her back. How?How did she know that? I didn’t. Okay, that wasn’t entirely true. I fucking wanted the bitch back the second she did a fucking runner, but she didn’t know that.

“What?” Largo whispered, looking from Montana to me. “What do you mean?”

“Don’t fucking play games with me. You knew what the club would do if you left. How?”

My wife gulped, looking at Montana for help.

Could have told her she’d receive no help from him.

He was just as pissed at her as I was.

Maybe worse, knowing his temper.

“Who told you?”

Largo looked at Montana, then back at me, before admitting, “I saw Virginia’s back.”

“Excuse me?” Montana stiffened. “What about my mom’s back?”

Largo confessed, “They punished her too.”

Montana stormed out of my office.

I didn’t need to ask where he was going.

I knew.

Apparently, his dad left the real reason for the clause out. Sucked to be him because I hoped Montana ripped his father’s ass a new one for even thinking of something so sadistic, so heinous we should punish him for even instituting it.

“Caleb?”

Shaking my head, I growled, holding up my hand to stop whatever she was about to say. “Not now, Largo.”

“Yes, right now,” my stubborn wife demanded. “I need to tell you something before I receive my punishment. Something important.”

“More important than what me and my brothers are about to do to you?”
