“Other than he’s the head of the Sicilian Mafia and my grandfather, nothing. Like I said, he’s a very private man.”

“Go on, Shame,” Montana groaned, frustrated.

If I didn’t know any better, I would say we were being fed a pile of bullshit. Everything Fury and Shame had said was a carbon copy of what Largo offered. Which was nothing pertinent.

“That’s all I’ve got, Prez,” Shame stated, closing his file.

“What do you mean, that’s it?” I asked, looking from Shame to Montana. “There has to be more. What about her father? His military career? The men who died? Romano’s involvement? There has to be more.”

“I don’t know what to tell you, Mercy. You know everything I know and it’s not much. I still can’t get access to Capt. Finn’s military records. I found nothing about her brother or her mom. The only information I have about Largo is your marriage certificate from when you married her the first time, and I only have that because this club kept a copy.”

“That’s impossible. Sophia was born at St. John’s Presbyterian. I watched Largo sign the damn birth certificate. I know that’s on record. I hand delivered the paperwork to city hall myself.”

Shame shook his head, opening his file before sliding a sheet of paper towards me. Picking it up, I looked at my daughter’s birth certificate to find mother’s name unknown.

“What the fuck?”

“That’s what I’ve been trying to say. There is nothing. Absolutely nothing to indicate who Largo really is. It’s almost as if someone wiped her identity from the face of the earth.”

“She’s upstairs sleeping in my room, Shame!”

“I don’t know what to tell you, Mercy.”

Montana leaned back in his chair, rubbing his chin. “So, what you’re saying is that someone neatly packaged and tied everything up with a bow for us?”

The brother nodded. “Yeah. Seems that way, Prez.”

Smirking, I shook my head. “Someone is lying.”

“Yep,” Montana agreed, getting to his feet. “I think we need to have another talk with your wife, brother.”

I agreed.

Heading for the door, we stopped when the prospect Pippen poked his head inside. “Uh, sorry, Prez. Just thought you’d like to know that some Italian dude is here to see Largo. I didn’t know if you were allowing visitors or not. He’s waiting in the main room.”

Pushing past Montana, I grabbed the kid by the scruff of his shirt. “And you just left him alone!”

“I...” the kid sputtered when I pushed him away from me, running for my wife as if my life depended on it, my brothers behind me.

Chapter Ten

Largo

Caleb was still angry with me.

As I watched him leave for the board meeting, a pang of guilt washed over me, wondering if he would ever forgive me for leaving him. The weight of my punishment weighed heavily on him. A constant reminder of what I had compelled him to do.

In my defense, it was the only way.

Not that I really had a choice in the matter. If I didn’t follow through with the punishment, that bastard would make damn sure Caleb and the others learned the truth and that was something I wasn’t willing to risk. It was bad enough that he was still in the clubhouse, but to have that fucker spill my shame was something I refused to let happen.

My husband and daughter had already suffered enough.

Besides, it didn’t matter now.

My family was dead and I was safely back with the Soulless Sinners.

Well, as long as I stayed within the confines of the clubhouse.
