“Caleb?”

Shaking my head, I got up and headed for the bathroom. I wasn’t in the mood to talk. Particularly not with her.

“Not right now, Largo.”

It bugged me that she seemed okay with everything. Like she deserved what happened, accepted it, and was ready to move on.

Too bad for her because I wasn’t.

I didn’t think I’d ever be okay with what I’d done.

The whole thing still rubbed me raw.

Closing the door behind me, I started the shower before removing my clothes. Standing in front of the mirror, I looked at myself, seeing how tired I looked. Drained, worn out. I was no longer the young man I once was. What looked back at me was a man who had seen too much, done too much. The last three years had taken their toll.

Turning away from the old man who stared back at me, I stepped under the hot spray, closed my eyes, and let the hot water wash over me while I prayed for guidance on what to do next.

“Let’s make this quick. I need to get home to my son,” Montana ordered, as he took his seat at the head of the table.

Getting comfortable, my gut was telling me this meeting would be anything but short. Call it a hunch, but with Shame in the meeting, and the file sitting in front of him, I knew whatever he found wasn’t going to be good. It generally never was when he brought his work into the boardroom.

“Any business we need to discuss before we get to the real reason, we’re all here?”

“No,” I clearly said, wanting this over and done with.

“Shame, you’re up.”

Flipping the folder open, the club’s intel officer began, “Fury, as requested, I contacted Sellers’ Funeral Home, and they will deliver Largo’s family to Valencia’s Funeral Home tomorrow morning. You can let your family know so they can start making arrangements.”

“Thank you.”

“Any word on your grandfather?” Montana asked.

Fury nodded. “Yeah. He sent an email. After the required mourning period, he’s requesting a meeting with you before he’s introduced to Largo.”

Sitting up, I asked, “Why does he need to see my wife?”

“Oh, I don’t know, Mercy,” Fury snarked. “Maybe because she’s his granddaughter.”

“She’s still healing. She’s not accepting visitors.”

Fury opened his mouth to say something, but Montana held up his hand to stop him. “Fury, leave it. Shame, continue.”

“Bane got the blood work back, but it was inconclusive. He wants to run the test again.”

“This is bullshit. Why didn’t Bane catch this before? Largo’s been part of the club since she married Mercy, the first time.”

“I asked him that and all he said was it’s not his job to police the genetic genealogy of this club.”

“Fucking prick,” Montana cursed. “Tell that bastard to do his job or I will find someone else who will. Go on.”

“With what Largo gave us and Fury granting me access to his mother, Mrs. Moreno was able to fill in some of the holes. Now, until I can sit with Armando Guillermo, everything I’ve learned is hearsay. Fury’s mom confirmed she had an older half-sister named Julianna and that her sister had disappeared shortly after her twenty-first birthday. According to Mrs. Moreno, one day she was there, the next she was gone. And when I mean gone, I mean everything was gone. Not even a picture remained. She didn’t even know her sister had married, let alone had children.”

“How is that possible?” I asked no one in particular.

“Because the Guillermo family is private. Very fucking private. My mom may be the second daughter to Armando Guillermo, but I’ve only seen the man twice in my entire life,” Fury admitted.

“What can you tell us about him?” Vicious asked.
