“Dad’s bodyguard,” Romeo gasped.

“Yes. They wanted to marry, but Daniel needed Mr. Romano’s permission.”

“Let me guess,” Renaldo groaned. “Dad said no.”

“You would be right. When Daniel presented my Julianna to your father, he made a mistake.”

“Fuck,” Romeo cursed. “Of course. Julianna was a beautiful girl. Dad wanted her for himself.”

“Son of a bitch always had a wandering eye,” Rico muttered angrily.

“Daniel knew Rafaello wouldn’t stop until he had my Julianna, so with my permission and what money I could give them, they planned to run away together. Daniel’s family lived back west in California and he knew they would help them. Only they never made it.”

“There was no wedding, was there?” I asked, slowly putting everything together. “Rafaello used your daughter and Daniel’s deaths to ensure that his own brother and his mistress could disappear. He then made up this whole convoluted story about you. There was no war. Was there?”

“No. I was just a simple baker with a wife and two beautiful daughters.”

“That lying, cheating bastard!” Renaldo roared, jumping to his feet. “Dad killed two innocent people to protect Uncle Stefano and Loraine!”

“Why? Why would he do that?” Montana frowned, looking confused.

“Because dear old Dad asked him too,” my wife said, standing in the doorway, looking madder than hell and ready to rip heads. “And I’m betting that fucking bastard knew he fathered me and Landon and used his alliance with Rafaello to sweep it all under the rug.”

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Mercy

“Where is that son of a bitch?” my wife sneered, looking around the room while Montana and I slowly got to our feet.

“Baby, gonna need you to calm down and tell me what you think you know,” I muttered and instantly knew I had just pissed her off even more.

Fuck.

I knew Largo had a temper. Seen it many times. But nothing like this. My woman was ready to kill someone, and by the looks of her, she didn’t give a flying fuck what the ramifications were.

She wanted blood.

“He knew he fathered me. He knew all along. He intercepted my bloodwork, that Bane requested. He fucking knew that if Bane saw the results, Bane would go straight to Montana; he knew the fallout would be unthinkable. That bastard would lose the respect of the club, his wife, and you,” she sneered, pointing her finger at Montana. “Don’t you see it? He played everyone, to protect his own ass because he was too chickenshit to come clean and tell the truth. He ruined several lives. Where is he?”

“Largo is right,” Virginia said, walking back into the clubhouse, standing next to her. “George created theBlood of a Sinnerpunishment to deflect from what he’d done. He knew with the board concentrating on me, they wouldn’t look any deeper. The fact is, Son, your father knew with me recuperatingfrom the punishment I would be in no state to tell the board why I’d left. I know I am right. Ask Happy. He will tell you.”

All eyes turned to the man stoically standing off to the side, looking at the floor. “Virginia is right, Prez. None of the board members asked her what happened. They all followed your father’s lead.”

“But not you?” Montana challenged.

Happy shook his head. “No. I knew your mother had her reasons, and whatever they were, they must have been valid for her to do what she did. I tried talking your father down, but he was determined.”

“Did George know Largo was his biological daughter before I married her?” I asked, taking a step forward, only for Montana to stop me.

“Yes. He suspected,” Happy admitted. “He had Popeye intercept Largo’s bloodwork before Bane could see it. It verified what he already knew.”

“That motherfucker knew all this time and still persuaded the board to punish Largo!” I roared loudly as Montana, Fury, and Vicious held me tightly. “I’ll kill him!”

Laughter filled the air as everyone turned to the bitter woman sitting at the bar. The look on her face was maniacal. She glared at all of us. “You men are forgetting one important bit of information. You still have not asked the big question.”

“What the hell are you talking about, Cecilia?” Rico growled.

“Who planted the bomb that killed poor little innocent Julianna and her fiancé, Daniel Winters?”
