“Traynor and Mitchell kidnapped us. They’re both inside. I handcuffed them to the bed inside. Max! They shot Max. I have to find out if he’s okay!” Viper exclaims. I hand her my phone so she can call her club.

“Wildcard? It’s me. I’m fine. Rafe found us. I’m not sure where we are, but I think we’re in Red Rock Canyon.” I give Viper our location, which she passes on to Wildcard. “Max, is Max okay?” I wrap my arm around her shoulders while we wait for the answer. Angela and Angelica are watching with tear-filled eyes. “Oh, good. That’s great news.” She ends the call and hands the phone back to me. “Max is okay. He’s at the clubhouse.”

Mother and daughter sag with relief. I open the back of my car and let them pile inside. Viper stays with me while I turn to Deputy Jennings.

“Want to help me arrest a dirty cop and his accomplice?” I ask the Deputy as I take out my gun.

“My pleasure.”

Our quarry is easy to find. We just follow the raised voices. We find them struggling to free themselves from a set of police-issue handcuffs while arguing about whose fault it is that they are in this predicament.

“I’d say you’re both to blame,” I tell them when we enter the room. I can’t control my grin as I study their injuries. “You should know better than to take on Viper. She’s an Enforcer for the Demon Dawgs for a reason.”

“Your girlfriend is an Enforcer?” Deputy Jennings asks me with a chuckle. “Fuck, you better never piss her off. Looks like she can take you out with little effort. There isn’t a mark on her, and these guys look like they went ten rounds.”

By the time I gleefully shut the cruiser door on Traynor’s snarling face, Angela and Angelica are snoozing in the backseat of my car. Viper moves into my open arms as I give myself a few minutes to just hold her. The sound of motorcycles echoes through the canyon, and within minutes, Viper’s club circles around us. I place a hand on Jennings’ shoulder when her hand shifts to her weapon. “They’re on our side,” I tell her.

She shakes her head, but her eyes widen when Puma strides forward. “Fuck, they make bikes big enough to carry him? Wait. Fuck me. Is that Maklin Brooks?”

I chuckle as she goes from cop to fan. “That’s him. He’s Viper’s President, and one of the best men you could ever meet.”

Puma wraps Viper in a tight hug while the rest of her brothers clap her on the back. Puma makes his way over to me, glaring at the two in the back of the Deputy’s vehicle.

“You found our girl. I’m in your debt,” Puma says, shaking my hand and clasping one of his massive paws on my shoulder.

“She did the heavy lifting,” I tell him. “She had them tied up and waiting for us.” I introduce him to Deputy Jennings, who trips over her words as she gushes about watching him play.

“That’s a whole other life,” Puma says with a grin. “But I always enjoy meeting a fan. Any chance you’ll let me take those two off your hands?”

I shake my head as she stammers. “He’s kidding. Sort of,” I amend when Puma raises an eyebrow at me.

“No? Okay. Let’s ride,” Puma announces, circling his finger in the air.

Viper climbs into the seat next to me, and I follow Puma back to the highway. The bikers create a protective circle around us as we head back to the clubhouse. Angelica waves at them, giggling when they wave back.

When we reach the clubhouse, Reggie is outside waiting for us. He barely waits for me to stop the car before he’s opening thedoor and pulling his girls into his arms. Viper grins at the little family before heading inside. I follow her as she rushes over to Max.

“You scared the hell out of me,” they say in unison. I chuckle when they both ask about what happened. While they share their stories, Gears delivers plates of food to our table. Thick hamburgers with piles of fries are a welcome sight after the long day. I eat while Max describes how Reggie saved his life. Seems he saw the attack on the security feeds and rushed out to help. He called in the troops and got Max the medical help he needed. All the while fearing the fates of Angela and Angelica.

“He’ll make a good Demon Dawg,” Viper says, popping a fry in her mouth.

“Speaking of Demon Dawgs. Did you know Barry Jones used to be one? He went by the road name of Preacher.”

“Really? I wonder why he didn’t tell me. Puma, do you remember a former member by the name of Preacher?”

Puma shakes his head, but Wildcard nods his. “I knew him,” Wildcard says. “Why do you ask?”

“He’s the guy who gave me my alibi for Wayne’s murder.”

“Wait? He lives here? Fuck, I haven’t seen him in years. He got five years in the pen just before you joined,” he tells Puma. “I did him a favor after his sentencing, but when I tried to visit him, he wouldn’t see me. I wonder if this is a coincidence?”

“What?” I ask.

“Nothing. Fuck, I need to talk to him.”

“I can call him. Convince him to come see us,” Viper offers. She pats her kutte a few times before cussing. “Fuck, I don’t have my phone.”

“Use mine,” I offer, handing it over.
