She walks away to make the call while I finish my dinner. Taking a moment, I look around the clubhouse and grin at the noise and chaos. This is a family, and I’m the lucky son-of-a-bitch who gets to be part of it. All because of Viper. I came close to losing her today, but my woman is strong and resourceful. I couldn’t be more proud of her. Maybe my life won’t be black and white with her in it, but I realize I can live with the shades of gray because of her.

“He’s on his way over. I guess he was in town.”

“Good,” Puma says. “He should have come by here before now. Is there a reason he turned his back on the club?”

Wildcard shrugs. “He didn’t like Squiggy or his executives. He may have thought they had something to do with his arrest. I wouldn’t put it past the bastard. Squiggy had a thing for Preacher’s underage daughter. Which is why he asked me to get her out of town once his conviction came through. That was the favor I did for him. Once I had her settled, I went by to update Preacher, but he refused to see me. I just learned that she used the credit card I gave her to book a flight out here. Maybe he reached out to her and told her to come here.”

Gears announces that Smooth just let Preacher through the gate. Wildcard stands up to go outside to greet him. The sound of a shot has us all piling out of the clubhouse. Wildcard’s on the ground, blood blooming across his shirt, while Barry Jones stands over him, pointing his gun at the Demon Dawg VP. “I trusted you! You betrayed me!” he shouts at Wildcard. “You sold my daughter to traffickers! How much did you get for her, huh?”

AUTHOR'S THANK YOU

THANK YOU SO much for reading Viper’s Vendetta. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Viper is one of my favorite characters. She’s strong, but still soft. Prior to finding the Demon Dawgs, she was alone. Now she has a family and I couldn’t be happier for her.

If you have any comments or see any issues, please send me an email to [email protected] or visit my website at https://klbarstow.com/. Nothing draws me out of a book I’m reading faster than a mistake, so I’ve done multiple edits. However, if I missed any, I’d appreciate a note so I can fix it.

If you liked the book, please leave a review. When I’m looking for my next book to read, I count on the reviews of others to help me decide. Reviews help me as an author and they help readers, like you, find books they might enjoy. I’m hoping you like my writing style and the story enough to recommend it.

CHAPTER ONE: WILDCARD

“That went well,” Alisa says to me as we watch Viper and Max lead Angela and Angelica through the rear doors of 1%.

“Better than we thought. Adding the study room was a brilliant plan,” I complimented Alisa.

She grins at me. “Once I saw she had her teaching license, I thought she might jump at the chance.”

“Now I know where Elina learned how to manipulate others so well.”

Alisa chuckles and shakes her head. “I wish I could take credit. I think I’m the one who’s learning from her. Besides, we really have had parents asking for it. I have plans to ask Angela to move into the clubhouse and homeschool the kids.”

I open my mouth to respond, but spot Reggie rushing out the door. I take off after him. He’s dashing through cars until he drops from view. When I reach him, he’s kneeling next to Max’s body. Blood coats Max’s arm, and he has a bullet hole in his kutte.

“What the fuck happened?” I ask as Reggie presses down on the wound. Pulling out my phone, I call Splint, who is on duty as the hotel medic. “Need you in the parking lot now! Someone shot Max.” I don’t wait for his response, knowing he’s on his way.

“Two men grabbed the women and Angelica. I was watching the four of them leave the hotel on the security screen. Angelica tripped and fell, which gave the bastards their opportunity. One knocked Viper out while the other shot Max. They shove the girls into a black van and took off.”

“Did you recognize them? Were they wearing kuttes?” I ask.

Reggie shakes his head. “They had on masks and were wearing black. I didn’t see any kuttes.”
