“Uh… Rick—Richard. Richard Min.”

“Hmm… I haven’t heard of the Min family. Where are they based?”

“He’s Alex’s brother.”

A deadened silence lingered. Charlie gripped her steering wheel, getting ready for a fight. She was ready to defend Rick from her mother’s snotty comments.

Grace was indifferent about Alex. Excelling in academia to become a doctor, he had points an Asian parent loved. But because he grew up… well, not from prestige, it did not impress Grace. Having known nothing about Rick, she had to be even more wary and critical.

“Charlotte. I understand that you’re in this phase where you want to experience something exciting and reckless. You were quite the late bloomer. So you dedicate your time to this…Rickgentleman, but you should plan for what happens after you’re finished with him.”

Charlie couldn’t even feel shocked. This was a speech she’d even imagined her mother saying when she told her about Rick. But it was still infuriating hearing it said out loud.

“I’m not going to be ‘finished’ with him. I like him,a lot, and I plan to be with him for as long as he and I wish. And I don’t need your condescending tone undermining me and everything I do.” Before Grace got in a response, Charlie beat her to it. “I’m driving and about to head into a tunnel. We should end this call right now. Goodnight, mother.”

She closed the line. It was only ten more minutes before shegot to Rick’s place. She didn’t want the conversation to spoil her mood.

Rick’s worries about her background were justified, and her mother was just confirming his fears. But she wasn’t going to spoil their time together with her mother’s negativity.

The moment her car stopped in front of his door, her mood immediately lifted. All thoughts of her mother vanished when his door opened and the devilishly handsome man stepped out.

Every time she came over, the rich blue paint and white door brought a string of emotions to her. The minute she turned off her car, he’d always come out to receive her.

She dashed out and ran in his direction.

“Rick!” she called, before jumping into his arms. “You’re a sight for sore… everything. I missed you.”

He squeezed her before walking them inside and locking the door shut. “What’s the matter? Did you have a rough day?”

Without letting go, she shook her head against his shoulder. “No, just a long day.”

He made a low sound that always spread chills throughout her body. “I think I like having you excited to see me. Like a dog with its owner.”

She reared back to glare at him. “Are you calling me a dog and insinuating yourself as the owner?”

She saw the dare in his eyes. “I think we can agree I own some parts of yourbody.” Her cheeks flared as he leaned down to kiss her on the lips. She opened up, tongue in and ready to work. Her arms ensnared his neck, and they were deep in a kiss that she never wanted to end.

Each visit included a long make-out session before they got into anything. Sometimes they’d take it all the way and head for the bedroom, and sometimes they'd stop for what they had planned to do. Tonight, she couldn’t remember the plans.

“Mmm,” Rick murmured between her lips. “The salmon’s still warm in the oven. We should eat before it gets cold.”

Dinner.Thatwas the plan. They should be used to cold dinners by now. Rick mentioned he was cooking again. The smell of garlic and citrus made it to her nose, and her growling stomach pushed her to take the meal.

“Okay. I guess we can spare a few minutes for food,” she said and let him go.

He chuckled and walked with her to the kitchen, his hand on her lower back. Wearing a simple fitted white shirt and black jeans, it was unfair how little effort it took for him to look good.

As she sat, she watched him move around the kitchen. From pulling the tray of salmon from the oven to his meticulous placement on the plates, Charlie could only think of how perfect things were. A man so handsome, who cooks, works out, treats her like a goddess; why would she be interested in anyone else? Her mother should sit down and watch Rick work.

They started on dinner, and Charlie devoured the lemon pepper salmon. Rick was a great cook, far better than her. Growing up with gourmet food didn’t compare to Rick’s authenticity.

After finishing, Charlie helped him clean up and wash dishes. She found fun in that as well, despite knowing nothing about how to properly load the dishwasher. After that was cleared, Rick brought out the red wine, and they finished a glass before calling it a night.

Tonight’s lovemaking was slow, sweet, but still made her ignite.

She breathed his name, arms wrapped around his neck as his thrusts broke the tension in her body. Her muscles relaxed, allowing her to feel every ounce of him. His thick length sliding in and out, his strong arms holding her, and his lips pressing soft kisses on her neck.

The knot around her pussy was the only tension she wanted to build. Rick canted his hips to the side, hitting spots that shot off rockets inside her.
