The insult caused Grace to blanch, her polished posture coming to a halt, face twisted in offense. “I am guiding you so thatwon’thappen. Your father and I were simply a bad match, and I didn’t want that for you.”

“I believe I know what works for me. You’ve never been happy with dad. Ryan and I could tell, as young as we were. I won’t let that happen to me, and I proved it by calling it off with Matt.”

A sad smile broke her mother’s face, genuine enough to shock Charlie.

“You didn’t see everything, Charlotte. Your father and I were happy once before. Life has a way of surprising you.”

Her parents’ divorce had confused her since it happened, starting out vicious and tapered to dulled apathy. She wasn’t sure what went down, and why they’d turn on each other so, but it didn’t make for a pretty childhood.

They never talked about it with their children, which made the experience worse when she and Ryan were caught in the middle. Charlie would have suspected infidelity if she knew anything about her parents’ lives. Her father was always gone on business, and her mother spent most of her time resenting him.

“If you didn’t expect the divorce, then why would I? What’s wrong with me going into a relationship hoping for the best?” Charlie asked, wondering if her mother actually had a valid argument. “It’s all we can really do.”

“I chose a man who made me so happy, I felt like I was flying. But once we came down to the ground, reality wasn’t gracious to us,” Grace said, surprising Charlie more. “Your father wasn’t my parents’ first choice, Charlotte. They liked a gentleman who I thought was a little boring and unimaginative. Your father was exciting, adventurous, and daring.”

“What? Dad?” Charlie couldn’t believe it. That dull, absent hologram of a man she and Ryan had dinner with once in a while?

Grace nodded. “We were young and reckless. He came from a wealthy family, so my parents weren’t that against it, and his parents were hoping I’d set him straight. After we got married, had kids, he started working more. We were apart for more than half of the year at a time. Relationships don’t work that way. You need tobe together. So while I was here, he was thousands of miles away and found other interests to keep him occupied.”

A heavy breath fell from Charlie, having her suspicion confirmed. It only made sense things have turned out that way. It wasn’t excusable, but at least Charlie saw the reasoning behind her parents’ failed marriage.

“I’m sorry that it happened in your marriage, but nothing is ever guaranteed. What relevance does this have to my choices?” Charlie asked.

“You’re with this man because he makes you happy, but you should consider down the road when that stops. Then what do you have? You need to pick someone stable, and on your level.”

“What is that supposed to mean? On my level? You mean just asrich? You and dad were on the same level and it still didn’t work out!”

Grace huffed. “Even so, you should always be more careful of outsiders. You never know what their real motives are. What they’re really after.”

“Outsiders?” Charlie bellowed. “Are we in a mafia? Rick isn’t like that. In fact, it’s ironic that you would accuse him of being a gold digger since his first instinct was to push me away because of our wealth!”

“Is that so?” Grace didn’t look impressed. “Sounds even more questionable.”

“My goodness!Nothingis going to satisfy you. He’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.” Charlie had enough. “I don’t want to argue with you anymore. I have work to do, and there’s no time to fight with you about who I should be with. Please understand that Rick is my choice. If it doesn’t work out, then so be it. I won’t regret it.”

“Now you’re just being childish, doing the opposite of what I’m telling you,” Grace said.

“No, mother. I’m doing what my heart is telling me.I love Rick, and I’ll always push hard until you see him for who he is!”

The shock on her mother’s face reflected her own when she realized what she’d just said.

Crap. She didn’t know whether it was a slip of the tongue, or truth spilling from her subconscious. She hadn’t said it to herself before unloading it on the spot, and in front of hermother,of all people.

Crap.

Twenty-Four

Rick tightenedon Charlie’s hips, positioning her above his cock as he felt the slickness of her pussy. She held the railing of her bed with one hand, and the other planted firmly on his chest.

Slowly, she sat down, impaling herself on his thickened shaft. Her moans grew louder after each penetrative inch.

“Nice and easy,” he murmured, guiding her all the way.

And then she was there. They adjusted, and she wiggled her hips for an extra tease. He pumped up, hitting her with the first thrust and wringing out her gasp. Another hand explored her flushed face, past her breasts, and down to her heated stomach. “So pink. Everywhere.”

Anything pink reminded him of Charlie. It got to a point where he’d get hard just looking at the color.

“Rick, move faster. I need it hard and fast,” she pleaded, starting the work herself as she bounced. He let her lead, enjoying her dancing tits like a custom porn in his perverse fantasy. God, she felt good. So hot and wet and snugged. He could stay inside her all day long.
