Nolen will take him down, Fin. And then the pup and Kalila will rest in peace.

I know Aloysius. But it will be bittersweet.

Aloysius shook our massive head as I searched for my next target. When this was all said and done, my goal was to be red rather than white.

I was muzzle deep in another wolf’s throat when howls erupted from the open area. Glancing up from the wolf, the others from Dolostone shifted back and surrendered. Another howl rose from the forest, and I knew my uncle was no longer on this earth. I searched the vicinity for any of the wolves I had spent the last six years with.

Olli was helping an injured wolf back to the packhouse. Hannah and Harley were talking with Nolen’s mother, and I could only assume his father because they looked identical. Markus was tongue deep in a she-wolf’s mouth, and the only thing I could think was that he had found his mate. Good for him. He needed someone to ground him.

The surrendered Dolostone wolves were rounded up and placed at the bottom of the stairs, with Quartzite and Rhyolite wolves circling them. A familiar scent floated over to me and I began to search the dead. I didn’t find him there and so the only other option was that he was in the surrendered wolves. There were a lot more dead bodies on the ground as the Rhyolite wolves came out of the houses above the stores.

A few of the younger wolves shied away from me, which was fine, but then it also hurt me. I had never hurt pups in my pack, but my uncle had ruined these pups. But it could also be from all the blood that was staining my fur. I was red now instead of white. My goal had been completed.

Another howl rose from the woods. But this one was mournful as it slowly faded. I lifted my head and answered him. Others did as well, making it a chorus of sorrow.

I spotted Nolen leaving the wood line. Blood covered his entire body, soaking into his fur. He held his head high as he made his way to the packhouse. Nolen was a true alpha and as much as I fought to not go on this journey, I’m glad that I had.

Olli came up beside me with some shorts. I shifted back and put them on.

“You’re a mess.” The old man commented as he ran his hand through his hair.

“Yeah, that was the goal.” I laughed as we made our way up to the packhouse.

Nolen had already instructed the warriors to take the surrendered wolves to the dungeons, but was going to be sending food down to them. He was better than me. If that was me, I wouldn’t have done that until I knew they were going to be worthy of being in my pack.

The familiar smell receded as Olli and I made our way up the stairs behind Nolen and his pack. Hannah and Harley came up to us. They were covered in blood as well; I glanced around for Markus but didn’t find him. The dining hall was crowded with all the wolves that were in the room.

Grabbing a sandwich, I went up to an omega. She was a small thing with brown hair and dark eyes. Standing with other omegas as they passed out drinks and directing the battle wary wolves to beds or to the shower.

“Is there a shower I can use?”

“Of course… It’s down the hall last door to the left. It’s a community shower.” The she-wolf stammered before getting herself together. I didn’t miss the flicker of her eyes as they roamed my body. Every female did this when I didn’t have a shirt on or was completely naked.

I nodded and shoved the rest of the sandwich in my mouth. The need to get the blood off my skin had become my next goal and then I was going to find somewhere quiet to sleep. When I stepped into the room, it immediately enamored me.

The room had at least twenty showers and then on one side of the room there were cabinets I could only assume held towels and possibly extra clothes. I found the soap and went to one of the showers and turned it on. The warm water loosened my tight muscles as I scrubbed the blood from me. The water ran red as it drained into the floor.

I found multiple wounds from the fight, but luckily, they were minor and were healing quickly. After all the blood was gone, I stepped out and toweled off. Feeling better after the warm shower. The shorts I had been wearing had blood on them, so I wrapped my towel around my waist to find more. If I didn’t find some, I was going to crash here in my towel.

Waking in the soft bed was unusual for me. Since it had been ten years when my back last laid on a mattress. Luckily for me, I had found an omega walking past the shower room and he had led me to this room. Because Alpha Nolen had told him I was to have a room. What he didn’t tell me was that I would share it with Harley.

Harley wasn’t poor company, but his snoring got under my skin. Stretching, I threw my legs over the side of the full-size bed and went into the bathroom to take a piss since it was a longer of a walk to the woods.

Harley still slept in his own bed. If what you called the way he was laying sleeping. Instead of sleeping from head to foot, he was sleeping across the mattress. His head hanging off the bed along with his arms and then his feet off the other side. There was no way that he didn’t have the blood rushing to his brain. I shook my head and then headed out of the room to go get whatever that amazing smell was.

As I neared the kitchen, I spotted the amazing smell and went to take a closer look at it. It looked like it was some sort of casserole and it was definitely causing my stomach to scream at me. I hadn’t had a home cooked meal in the past seven years and anyone could tell if they were near me.

“Would you like some, Fin?”

I turned and spotted the omega that showed me to the shower rooms.

“If I can?” I inquired as she came up to me and handed me a plate to hold before scooping out a sizeable portion of the dish. She turned and handed me a fork with a smile.

“Thank you.” I groaned as the food hit my tongue. Whoever made this was someone like my grandmother. Damn, it was good!

“You’re welcome.” She giggled as she went to the other side of the kitchen and started unloading food items from the boxes that littered the kitchen.

Scarfing down the rest of the food, I placed the plate and fork in the sink and went outside to see what I could do to help. I spotted Nolen, Sawyer and Lucas heading to the dungeons and part of me wanted to know what they would do with some of the Dolostone wolves.
